Neutral Colors and a Giant Bow

I wore this very neutral-colored outfit to watch Sharknado with some friends the other day. It was a gloriously bad movie. My skirt looks shark-colored in these pictures so I guess it was an appropriate outfit. This skirt is really supposed to be an army green color but when it arrived it was more muted grayish green. Oh well. It looked fine with my new black bow blouse.

This skirt is super wrinkly. Sorry. I guess humidity doesn't steam clothes.
Annnd. Emotional head shot. Just kidding. The timer went off before I could smile. But look at my big bow! So cool.

Have a great Wednesday!

Tuesday Tunes: The Essex Green - Rue De Lis

I just love this song and the entire album it's on. I discovered The Essex Green during freshman year of college and listened to their album Cannibal Sea over and over. It's a great summer album even though I associate it with fall. They have an indie pop/60s feel that's perfect for this time of year.

I found this song on YouTube with these fun old videos playing underneath, so of course I had to share it with you guys. Though I'm pretty sure this isn't an official music video, the vintage outfits and adorable dancing really mesh well with the song.

Happy Tuesday!

Navy Striped Dress, Spiky Shoes, and a Bouffant

Remember my mustache dress I wore a few posts back? Well this is the same Walmart child dress with a different pattern! I think I'll get more wear out of this classic striped number than the mustache print one, but they were both so inexpensive it really doesn't matter. I can definitely see this dress worn a number of different ways - especially in cooler weather with tights and various layering items. Its first time out needed to have a nautical vibe though. Gold and navy blue always look great together. Plus I had new anchor earrings to wear.

How would you wear a striped dress like this?

In other life news I began the process of moving Matt into my apartment over the weekend. That meant clearing out a lot of my clothes and taking them home. Sad times. Though there were things there that I haven't worn in a long time so I guess I should donate some stuff. It's probably unnecessary to keep shirts from high school. I feel like I have so many clothes I can't wear them all but I want them there as options if I have the urge to wear something specific! Anybody else like that? There's just not room! I want an entire room closet. Ah...life dreams...

Happy Monday!

New Stuff!

You guys. I've acquired way too much new stuff over the past couple of weeks. I think I'm actually going to have to leave some stuff at home when I go back to school. And also I need to not spend any more money. But that's the moral of my story almost all the time. So I figured I'd share my new stuff with you since a lot of it is great thrift finds or bargains and I always love hearing about people's bargain finds.

First up: my tiger head dress courtesy of PersunMall which you guys saw yesterday. I think it'll be cool paired with some boots in the fall. Or maybe a colorful cardigan and flats.

The 80s dress I found at Savers up in Illinois. It fits me perfectly and I need to wear it asap.

New bows! And thrifted scarves!
Big Hair Bows
Scarves
I spent too much on this OCC Lip Tar in Queen but it's so pretty!

Clothes thrifted at my favorite thrift store in Illinois. All very inexpensive. I think I paid $24 for the whole lot plus the scarves above, two books, and a belt.
Jean Jacket, Red Blouse, Tropical Print Dress
Green Sweaters and Leopard Cardigan
Some cheapo jewelry from Forever 21 (except the leaf ring which is from PersunMall) including a ballin' spiked earcuff. I almost wish I'd gotten it in silver too...must. resist. buying.
Nautical Earrings, Silver Rings, Spiked Ear Cuff
Target clearance shoes (what else is new?). The silver flats were $7 and they had other patterns/colors too. The Vans look-a-likes were from the kids' section and $3.88. At that price how could I leave them?

This super pretty dress was a giveaway win from Calivintage and Mrs. Pomeranz and it finally came last week! It fits perfectly. I can't wait to wear it!

And finally the pile of Bath and Body Works sale stuff I ordered:

I hope you're all having a great weekend!

Rawr!: A Tiger Head Dress from PersunMall

Happy Friday everyone! PersunMall is sponsoring me this month and kindly sent me this Tiger Head dress. I included it on my wishlist post for them a little bit ago because it was so cool. It's definitely trendy and something I don't already have in my wardrobe. The material is a stretchy knit so it's very comfortable and I don't have to iron it (which is always a bonus when I'm running late). Unfortunately it doesn't fit like I thought it would, though it's still cute. It was supposed to be more of a skater dress look but the waist of the dress hits below my natural waist. I attribute that to my short torso - one of many banes of my existence. Luckily the different fit distinguishes this dress from the many dresses I have that are fitted at my natural waist. I'm looking forward to styling my tiger dress with the jean jacket I thrifted once it gets cool outside.

PersunMall also sent me the cute little leaf ring below so I threw it on with this outfit. It doesn't seem to be on their website anymore though. The ring on the right is another unnecessary purchase from a mall trip in Illinois.

I thought the tribal print in my shoes complimented my giant chest tiger. Don't you think?
Isn't it weird how seeing a trend a few times makes it less and less strange? Objectively there is a tiger peering out from my boob region which invites people to stare at my upper boob quadrant. But he's a fierce chest tiger with pretty teal eyes and I like him!

Now I'm looking at this and this post is such a contrast from my previous super colorful one! I think one of my favorite things about this dress is the tiger's teal eyes though. Also the fact that they match my nail polish. And that it was completely unintentional. But the pink lipstick matching the tiger nose was indeed intentional.

I hope you guys have a great Friday! And I know I don't say this enough but thanks for reading!

Things I Love Thursday

Happy Thursday!

The score at the end of Pocahontas is one of my favorites. So epic! Here's a list of top Disney scores from the past 20 years - Part 1Part 2.  (Some of my favorites were left out though. Sad.)

This teacher who wore the same outfit in his school picture every single year:

Why you should never ask the internet for Photoshop help:

*This post Against Effortlessness by The Clothes Horse is wonderful. I'm not too cool to say I put effort into my appearance!

*This robot temporary tattoo by Tattly would be a perfect gift for Jeanie's birthday.

*This list of Literary Doppelgangers can help you pick out your new favorite book!

*Apparently I've been tying my shoes inefficiently my whole life!

A Super Colorful Tropical Print Skirt, Yellow Top, & Pink Wedges

Happy Wednesday everyone! Here's a very colorful outfit I wore the other day while visiting people in Illinois. I had an idea of not wearing any neutral colors in this outfit and it really worked out in my opinion. I actually wore a version of this before but never put it on the blog. This skirt has one of the best prints in my whole wardrobe. It's so bright and fun! Plus nobody else has one like it since it was handmade by my mom.

I asked Mom to put my hair up that day and a big bouffant resulted. I usually ask her to make it nice and big. It's glorious. If only Mom could do my hair every day. This is all swirly and pretty and professional. When I do my own hair at school the back is a mess 90% of the time. Which means I just slap a couple bows on it and ta-da! Good enough.

And here is my magazine face pose for your enjoyment. I'm wearing my new OCC Lip Tar in Queen. I splurged on it the other day. It's wonderfully bright. I want more so I can mix my own shades too! But they're expensive so that may have to be a birthday buy in a couple months.

And the best pose of the day:

I think this is one of my favorite outfits recently. You can never have too much color!
Have a great Wednesday!

Tuesday Tunes: Whitehorse - Devil's Got a Gun

I just recently discovered Whitehorse. They're a super cool Canadian group made up of a husband and wife duo. I was watching this live performance and around 2:00 in she gives him this look and I was like - there's definitely something going on between those two. And I was correct! They're really creative in the way they utilize multiple instruments and voice looping to put on a layered performance with only two people.

Enjoy! Happy Tuesday!

A Jeanie Outfit: Deer Print Dress, Wayfarers, & Clog Sandals

Happy Monday everyone! Here's an outfit Jeanie wore the other day. We both bought this same dress in different patterns in the Target kids' section the other day. Hers has little happy deer all over it. This outfit is almost entirely from the kids' department at Target though. Which means either adults are wearing adult-looking outfits or we're wearing childish outfits. I like to assume it's the first situation. Either way, this outfit is da bomb. And you'll be seeing my black bow print version of this dress sometime soon, I'm sure.

Little happy deer closeup time:

I hope you had a jolly weekend. I've been super busy visiting people and whatnot. It's been good but I usually feel ready to come home by the end of our trip. I won't have too much time to relax before getting back to the grad school grind so I'm looking forward to doing whatever I want for the next couple weeks. Though I'm sure I'll be getting gradually more and more anxious about next semester as time goes on. It's hard for me to completely relax!

Anyway, have a nice start to your week!

Polka Dot Denim, Aviators, & an Orange Top

It's Friday! I swear this summer is flying by. This is something I wore on a day of thrifting and hanging around town. I found a tropical print dress and a few sweaters (that'll have to wait a few months to be worn). I would say it was a successful thrifting trip!

I've worn a variation of this outfit probably four times already. It's weird but I always get positive comments on it. I guess it's just one of those crowd pleasing outfits! I certainly like it.

And...here's a wonderful action shot of me running across the driveway. I'm almost like an athlete.

Since I was nominated to do this little question thing Liebster Blog Award by Emma from Squirrel and Walrus, I figured I'd go ahead and do it now. I know you're all just dying to read more about me. I actually turned to my sister a minute ago and complained that there weren't 11 things about myself that I could think of so this should be interesting.

11 Things About Me

1. I've lived in Georgia for 12 years but I never picked up a southern accent. Georgia people always ask me where I'm from.

2. I think the art of animation is so so cool. I look forward to upcoming animated films and love the crap out of my 90s classics. Almost every one I watched as a kid I have on DVD.

3. I sadly never hit 5'0".

4. I've been with my boyfriend Matt for 6 1/2 years. (Ever since I asked him to homecoming senior year.)

5. My collection of sunglasses is verging on ridiculous.

6. I really miss being in musicals.

7. I don't really know what I want to do with my life. I like too many things and am indecisive.

8. I'll try pretty much any food or drink and generally like everything.

9. I lived in Virginia all through grade school and still miss the mountains and the mild climate.

10. I've played the trumpet for 12 years but my band days are sadly over.

11. I beat all the other kids in the pull-up test in gym in middle school. My record is 12.

Questions by Emma

1. What is your number one travel destination?
It's hard to choose because I want to see so many places. I'd like to see the shores of Ireland, go to Japan, and/or visit Hawaii.
2. What's the best book you've read recently?
This year I liked Divergent and Insurgent and Warm Bodies as fun easy reads. Best overall within the past couple of years would have to be The Book Thief.
3. What's your favorite season?
Fall.
4. Do you have an item of clothing that has a special memory attached to it? What is it?
I guess the dresses I wore to various dances in high school and my theatre costumes have good high school memories attached to them.
5. What's the most recent thing you bought?
I thrifted a dress, two sweaters, a cardigan, two scarves, two books, and a belt at the same time.
6. Do you have any pets?
Not anymore.
7. What's your favorite breakfast food?
Cake.
8. What's your secret talent?
Completing full research papers in one night while fighting off the all-nighter caffeine paranoia that sets in.
9. Do you speak any foreign languages?
Just a tiny bit of spanish. Definitely not conversational at all.
10. What's your favorite flower?
Roses of course!

Pass It Along

And now I'll pass this to Amy from A. Loo's Closet, Alyssa from Butterflies on Mars, Kristina from Eccentric Owl, Jenna from Smitten, and anyone reading this who hasn't done this yet!

My questions:
1. What is the best book you had to read in school?
2. What was the first album you ever bought?
3. Have you ever broken any bones?
4. Are there any celebrities you embarrassingly like?
5. Would you rather be too hot or too cold?
6. Coffee or tea?
7. Would you rather never be able to wear makeup again OR only wear a track suit forever?
8. What were your favorite TV shows growing up?
9. Would you rather time travel to meet your ancestors OR time travel to meet your great great grandchildren?
10. Did you ever wish you had an identical twin?
11. If you could only have one type of food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
