Black Blouse, Mini Houndstooth Skirt, & Black Knee Boots

These pictures didn't turn out the best, but I liked how this outfit turned out so here they are! This is yet another instance where my shirt looks more sheer in the pictures than it looked in real life. I can't be the only one that happens to! Oh well. This outfit is a little more neutral-colored than I usually lean but it has a subtle mix of pattern to keep it from being boring. The polka dot bow (actually a sash from some pants) and this blouse look like they belong together. I've actually worn a version of this before but it never ended up on the blog.

I hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving! Mine was tasty, but now I need to buckle down and get more school work done. It'll be difficult since I'm home for break. Why is it always 340 times harder to get work done at home?

Happy Friday!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American readers! Whether or not you're celebrating Thanksgiving today, I've brought you this wonderful scene from Addams Family Values. They're putting on a Thanksgiving-themed play and Wednesday and the other camp misfits rebel. Skip to about 2:06 to get to the song, which is possibly the best part of this movie even though the whole movie is fantastic. (The quality in this video isn't very good but you'll get the point.)

I hope you have a great day and stuff yourself with plenty of food!

Flannel Shirt, Skater Skirt, & a Red Bow on a Bouffant

This skirt is such a crappy color but I try to make it work. Online it looked much more army green than whatever non-color this is. Oh well. It looks fine with my flannel shirt so it's useful! This day I decided to throw my hair up into a messy bouffant and put a big bow on it too. That was probably the best part of this look. This seemed like a very "fall" outfit to me!

I'm on Thanksgiving break right now but it's not very relaxing. I didn't think it would be. I often wonder if I'll ever feel relaxed again in my life. I'll probably feel much more content once this semester is finally over whether or not my plans for spring semester are finalized. I'm sick of worrying though.

I am doing some fun stuff over the break though, so don't worry. We went to see Catching Fire yesterday. I really liked it! It was very true to the book. I'm sure I'll be stuffing my face with delicious foods the next couple days too, so I'm looking forward to that.

I hope you're having a nice week!

Pink & Purple Plaid Skirt, Black Sweater, & Vertically Striped Tights

This pink, purple, and black plaid skirt is definitely one of my favorite thrift finds. It actually has a matching jacket that's somewhere in my closet back at home. I wouldn't put it past me to wear them together at some point, but so far I'm happy wearing the suit skirt as a separate piece. You don't see plaid with these colors very often! It tends to look great with black pieces, so that's exactly what I did here.

This angora blend short sleeved sweater was another great thrift find. It's so soft. Every time I see pictures of me wearing it I remember how nice it looks even though it's a simple piece. It should definitely be worn more often but I think the first time I wore it gave me a subconscious aversion to choosing it. One of the little angora fibers ended up in my eye ball. It created a lovely allergic reaction that lingered after I picked the hair out. It's worth it to wear this soft, cozy sweater though!

Present Picks: Eye Shadow Palettes For A Makeup Junkie

Since it's just about holiday time I figured I'd gather some present ideas for you guys in a series I'm going to call "Present Picks" (because I'm super sick of hearing the phrase "gift guide"). These are a few ideas if the person you're buying for is really into makeup - particularly makeup of the eye variety. Or you may just decide you want to buy these for yourself. (I don't judge). I own 3 of these already, so I can personally recommend them to you and your makeup-inclined friends.

(pictured left to right, up to down)

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette ($52) - This brand new palette is sold out at the moment but these rose-colored neutral eye shadows are so pretty. These pink-y shades would compliment blue or green eyes really well.
(I already have Naked 1 and 2 but I'd love to have this one too. See some swatches of the shades here!)

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Portable Palette Set ($48 only at Ulta) - This set is such a neat idea and a great value! It has four removable eye shadow quads that you can pop into an adorable bow-shaped portable palette. Each quad has a coordinated full sized blush and there are 3 full sized Maracuja lipglosses included too.
(I've heard really great things about this palette. The swatches are super pretty too.)

Too Faced Pretty Rebel Eyeshadow Palette ($46) - I've heard nothing but good things about this little palette. It has useful neutrals and bold, unique shades so you can come up with a variety of looks. I'm particularly intrigued by the duo-chrome color "girly".
(See swatches here!)

Urban Decay Book of Shadows Vol IV Redux ($32) - This set is an amazing value despite the cumbersome packaging. If you're new to Urban Decay or know someone who is, think about gifting this set. It has 5 shadows that are in the Naked palette plus some colorful shades to mix things up. The extras make this well worth $32. It comes with a full sized 24/7 liquid liner, primer potion, and mascara.
(I have it and the eye shadows are super pigmented and easy to work with, as can be expected from Urban Decay. The packaging is incredibly bulky though.)

Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette ($59) - This is a limited edition palette filled with brand new, gorgeous, pigmented shadows. There are so many looks you could make with this palette from daytime neutral to colorful smoky eye looks. It has a giant mirror and a two-sided brush too.
(It's wonderful. I know because I bought it for myself for my birthday. I'm going to put the silver shade all over my eyes for holiday times! Or maybe just all over my face/body because it's SO SPARKLY!)

Lorac Rockin' Red Hot PRO Set ($39 only at Ulta) - The Lorac PRO palette is an extremely useful mix of 8 shimmer and 8 matte neutral (or nearly neutral) eye shadows. Considering it's usually $42 and you get a liquid liner with this, this is a good deal. The shadows in this palette would work for anybody, any age.
(I have this palette. The colors are wonderful everyday shades and are nice to have on hand to use with brighter colors you may have. The shadows are very soft and pigmented.)

Houndstooth Tights, Denim Shirt, Black A-Line Skirt, & Sparkly Boots

Hey it's my new denim shirt again! I don't have nearly enough neutral tops so I'm sure this will be getting plenty of wear. For this outfit I let my bold houndstooth tights be the star though. They were only around $2 during a Forever 21 sale so I had to snatch them up. I can see them looking really cool with a red pencil skirt. Maybe that'll be one of my Thanksgiving break outfits! Look at me coming up with outfits in the middle of the night like an outfit wizard. (I probably should have scheduled this post prior to 4am but essay writing prevailed on my to-do list. So now you get to read strange(r) ramblings due to my lack of sleep.)

It's Friday! Though I'm still working on a paper so I'm not free for Thanksgiving break yet. Nor am I really free during Thanksgiving break since I have an interview, a presentation to put together, and another paper to write. The school work truly never ends, my friends. Let's just hope I don't get the flu this Thanksgiving break like last year. (I even had my flu shot but it was a different strain.) That was just lovely.

Anyway, have a great Friday/weekend!

Acid Wash Skinny Jeans, Polka Dot Crop Top, & a Mustard Cardigan

My style can really fluctuate from day to day! Sometimes I want to be super retro and other days I want to be trendy and cool. I know I was scoffing at acid wash jeans in stores a year ago but then I saw these while browsing Boohoo and a light bulb went off. They all of a sudden were super cool to me. I really enjoy a lot of 80s trends so why shouldn't I try this one? They're an especially great pair of jeans because they're acid wash in a modern skinny cut (with a flattering butt area - not mom jeans at all). Needless to say, they're a new favorite now.

This time I paired them with my polka dot crop top (which was a bit too cold even though these pictures were taken in October) and my trusty mustard cardigan. This cardigan is on its last legs though. I definitely got my money's worth but I'm on the lookout for a new one!

It was super windy the day Jeanie took these pictures for me. I'm surprised any of them turned out! Most of them were of me fixing my bangs. Luckily Jeanie is getting good at quickly taking outfit pictures for me. Sometimes this blog needs a change in scenery so it's great to have someone who can take pictures quickly while we're out and about! I take credit for camera settings/teaching flattering angles/editing, but the composition here is all her. She's learned well! Thanks Jeanie!

I hope you guys are having a nice week. I have a lot of paper writing to get done by Friday so I should be working on that the rest of the week. I'll be really glad when this week is over!

Happy Wednesday!

Jean Jacket, Olive Green Sweater, Leopard Top, Leather Skirt, & Leopard Print Tights

Happy Monday! Here's an outfit I wore last month that I'm just now posting. I'm behind! I wore this to the Neutral Milk Hotel concert. I was plenty warm with my sweater and jean jacket. These studded loafers are nice and comfy (now that they have those Dr. Scholls pads stuck on the back to protect my ankles), so they're good concert shoes. This outfit just makes me really happy that it's fall and I can actually do some layering without dying of heat stroke.

denim jacket: so... - thrifted (originally from kohl's) | sweater: mossimo - target | leopard shirt: thrifted | skirt: forever 21 | tights: kohl's | loafers: x-appeal - rack room shoes | hair bow: forever 21

What is it about this leopard print shirt and olive green sweater that makes them look so perfect together? It's definitely one of my favorite layering combinations in my closet.

I hope you guys have a great week. This is the week before Thanksgiving break so I have about a billion things due. I'm going to need plenty of coffee, caffeinated tea, and trail mix to power me through the rest of my research and paper-writing. For all my readers who are students too, I wish you the best of luck finishing up the semester and/or making it to Thanksgiving break.

November at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia

Matt and I went out to the State Botanical Garden of Georgia last fall and we got quite a few nice pictures, so we had to repeat that trip this year. I like to get at least a couple good pictures of us together each year. What's a better time than while the fall colors are still around?
We don't go over to the botanical garden nearly enough even though it's down the street! Maybe I can convince Matt we need to take another trip there next week?

Matt just loves when I take pictures of him...

I hope you guys had a nice week. Mine has been busy, but I still have a ton of school work to get done this weekend. It'll be a writing papers kind of weekend. (The most exciting kind!) It gets hard to stay motivated around this time in the semester. Thanksgiving break is around the corner, though I'll still have a bunch of work to do over the "break". Oh well! At least there will be delicious feasting!

Have a happy weekend!
