Outfit: Strawberry Print Shorts, Green Crop Top, & White Sandals

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you've had a great week so far. I'm off to Dragon Con today but I wouldn't leave you without a new post. I figured I had better post this one before everyone (except me) starts getting into their fall clothes. Strawberry print shorts don't exactly scream "fall fashion." I really enjoyed this outfit though. It helps that these shorts are basically like pajamas so the whole outfit was incredibly comfortable.

I don't have too much to say except that I'm super excited for this weekend. Follow along on Instagram since I'll try very hard to post updates on our shenanigans. Anyone else have a hard time updating Instagram while lugging around a DSLR? First world problems. Hopefully I'll have plenty of fun pictures to show you next week though!

Have a happy weekend!

Outfit: Striped Fit and Flare Dress, Gold Sparkly Loafers, & a Superhero Print Hair Bow

Happy Wednesday everyone! This dress is a recent Modcloth sale purchase. I was buying my star print bikini and noticed this dress was also super cheap. So naturally it went in the cart and now it's mine. I figured it'd be a good piece to remix throughout the year. I'll be able to layer tops underneath it and style a ton of different colored tights and cardigans with it too. For its first day out there was no layering due to the muggy horrible weather, so I just accessorized with my wonderfully sparkly gold loafers and a superhero print hair bow.

Are you guys having a good week so far? Unfortunately I don't have much to report other than that I'm mentally preparing for Dragon Con. I'm job hunting and finding nothing I'm qualified for so to not feel so bad about myself I've just been getting pumped about this weekend. That's what normal people do right? Yeah.

Anyway, have a great middle of your week!

Outfit: Peach Lace Overlay Skirt, Gray V-neck T-shirt, Black Clog Sandals, & a Flower Hair Clip

Happy Monday everyone! Here's an outfit I wore out to the mall and out to breakfast with Matt a little over a week ago. I found this skirt in the clearance racks at New York & Co. and was planning on styling it in a casual way. I paired it with this gray brewery t-shirt and thought it ended up toning down the fanciness of the skirt. I'm sure this skirt will look really cute all dressed up too, but that would've been a little much for a mall trip. I just really liked how this outfit turned out. I don't wear a lot of skirts at this length but it worked here with my trusty clog sandals! I actually got a couple real life compliments the day I wore this too!

In other news I'm preparing for Dragon Con (which is Atlanta's comic con type convention) this weekend. I'm pumped! Any excuse to dress up in a costume is good enough for me so I couldn't resist. Check out my Instagram this week because I'll probably post a preview of one (or two) costumes! Any guesses about what I'll be wearing?

I'll also be wearing normal clothes though since I'm not sure I can wear a costume each of the 4 days. I'm thinking I'll need to wear my Star Trek shirt. Maybe my Spider-man t-shirt? It's definitely a time to embrace my geekier tendencies. What would you wear to a convention like this?

Anyway, have a wonderful start to your week!

Outfit: Handmade Mushroom Print Shift Dress with Brown Wedge Sandals

Happy happy Friday everyone! I'm very excited to finally show you the mushroom print dress my mom and I made. She was very patiently trying to teach me to sew and I learned that it's hard. We did change the pattern so it wouldn't have a seam down the front so that made following the directions a little less straight forward. I picked out the pattern and fabric and cut everything out though! I got to sew some of it... Mom did most of the sewing. I'm better at wearing the clothes than making them.

Anyway, I'm in love with this print and all the retro colors in it. The yellow bow makes the dress even better! I can already imagine the many colored tights and cardigans I'll be able to wear with it when the weather cools down. It's nice light cotton though, so it's perfect for Georgia summers. This time I just threw on a pair of simple brown wedges because I didn't really need anything to compete with this awesome dress on its first day out.

This is the first post I've written start to finish on my new laptop! Huzzah for a laptop that runs at a normal speed and actually shuts down correctly! I finally got the external DVD drive I ordered so I could install my copy of Photoshop. This PC has a full HD touch display and it's beautiful. I'm pretty pumped about it.

Do you guys have any fun plans for the weekend? I'm going to see a local theatre's production of Mary Poppins on Saturday. A girl that was in musical theatre a couple years before I was is playing Mary so that's pretty exciting! Other than that I guess I'll be scoping out the job scene some more and rethinking my game plan since it seems like everything I was initially looking into in is in New York and that place is just too expensive. I'd like to be able to save money and not spend it all on a place to live, thanks. But anyway. I also have video games I bought eons ago and need to actually play. I feel guilty playing games when I don't have a full time job though. That's probably weird but it feels like I should be doing work, looking for a job, or doing blog stuff (which counts as my free time I guess). I would really like to play those games I bought though...

Ok I'm done rambling. Have a fantastic weekend! I hope it's great!

July Favorites

Happy Wednesday everyone! It's about that time to round up my favorite outfits from last month. Everybody is looking cute, as usual. I was surprised by the amount of tights I saw in posts from July. That would just never be possible where I live but its giving me plenty of fall inspiration! Everyone here has a great blog so be sure to check them out!

YouTube Tuesday: Authentic 50s Makeup, Science of Blue Eyes, & Robin Williams on Conan

Happy Tuesday everyone! It's time for another roundup of YouTube videos. There's a little science, a little makeup, a new song, and a little Robin Williams so hopefully you'll see something interesting.

I wanted to first share Conan's tribute to Robin Williams because I know many of us have been grieving this past week. I'm not sure if it's because a lot of us grew up watching his films or what, but I've never been sadder about a celebrity death. It makes it even sadder because he was such a kind guy.

On a brighter note, this historically accurate 50s makeup tutorial is very interesting and pretty! It's a classic look so it's still in style. She has a ton of other historically accurate tutorials too so go check those out.

Here's some science for you! I knew this stuff already because genetics and recessive genes are really cool to learn about (at least to me) but maybe some of you might learn something new! Hooray for blue eyes and being rare.

And finally here's a new New Pornographers song for you to enjoy. I'm so excited about their new album coming out because they're my all-time favorite. Plus I'm going to see them again in November! Yay!

Have a great rest of your day!

Las Vegas Outfit: Red Skater Skirt, Polka Dot Bustier Top, & White Sandals

Happy Monday everyone! This is the last set of pictures from Las Vegas I'll be showing you! I didn't get pictures of every outfit I wore, but I have some of this one since just Matt and I were walking up and down the strip and he isn't annoyed when we stop to take pictures. We found a perfect spot on a walking bridge to get some pictures before heading back toward The Flamingo. You may notice my delightful beer accessory in these pictures too. We were having fun at MGM playing a Batman and Joker slot machine before stopping at an outdoor sidewalk bar and picking up a couple IPAs. I can't explain how cool and weird it was to legally walk down the sidewalk with a beer in my hand.

Las Vegas Outfit with a Polka Dot Top, Red Skater Skirt, and White Cardigan

Matt noticed a couple women giving me the stink eye while wearing this outfit. I made sure to be conscious of my butt being covered in this flippy little skirt, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't because my butt was out. I told him sometimes people just stink eye me and to ignore it. It kind of sucks when you get that look from women though - especially when you feel really good in an outfit. I mean, this can't have been the most provocative outfit they'd seen all day. We were in Las Vegas. Who knows what they were thinking though!

Anyway, do you have any fun plans for this week? I'm going to be planning/making a costume/costumes for Dragon Con next week. It's kind of last minute but the whole going to Dragon Con plan was made relatively last minute. You can help me by giving me ideas of what I should wear. I'll be scoping out the feel of everything so next year maybe I can enter one of the costume contests. This year will be just for fun. I'm excited!

Have a great Monday!

Quick Review: Sally Hansen® Miracle Gel™ Nail Polish in Redgy

You know I love nail polish so I was very excited to try out the new Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polish sent to me for testing by Influenster. They sent me the color Redgy to review. You apply two coats of the color over no base coat and then add the top coat. The formula was easy to work with and self leveled well. The unique thing about this product is that you get the long wear and shine of a gel polish but you don't need a UV light. I'm particularly happy about that because I'm wary of the unnecessary UV exposure needed for regular gel polish to cure.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail Polish in Redgy

I'm not usually someone that requires ridiculously long wear on a manicure since I like to change my nail color at least once a week. I was intrigued by the claim that this polish lasts up to 14 days though. I went ahead and tested it over my trip to Las Vegas because I knew I wouldn't have time to paint my nails while I was there. Overall I wore it for 10 days and I was amazed by how durable it was.

After about 6 days I noticed slight wear at the tips of my nails, but there weren't any true chips. By the time I got home there was a decent chip on one nail because I was picking at it. What I was super impressed by was how shiny my nails looked even after 10 days. That top coat must be magical! Once I was ready to take it off I used regular old acetone. It came off just like regular nail polish!

(After 10 days of wear)

You can find Sally Hansen Miracle Gel at most drug stores, Target, Walmart, etc. They have 45 shades including some nice nudes and an awesomely bright blue, so I'm sure you'll see a shade you like.

Bottom Line: I was very pleasantly surprised by this nail polish. This formula is so shiny and durable. (I honestly didn't expect it to perform as well as it did.) It's a cutting edge gel hybrid that I'm sure you'll start seeing more of in the future. Try it out if you like high shine nail polish or are just sick of your manicure chipping after a couple days.

(Disclaimer: I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.)

Las Vegas Outfit: Handmade Martini Print Dress and Black Wedges

Happy Friday everyone! I'm so excited to show you the super fantastic martini print dress my mom made me to wear in Las Vegas last week. I picked out this novelty print specifically because I knew it'd be perfect for Vegas. I wore this on Jeanie's 21st birthday to celebrate the occasion! I also may have partaken in an alcoholic beverage or two while wearing it. This was also what I wore to Thunder From Down Under and I think it was a highly appropriate choice.

I kept the styling here pretty simple due to the heat. I'm sure this dress will look great with colorful tights when it cools down too! The "necklaces" you see are party beads and my gambling card. My earrings are some ultra snazzy pink ones I thrifted a while back. My shoes were just my comfy black wedges since I knew I'd be able to walk long distances in them. I think we walked something like 7 miles that day, according to my phone pedometer. So I'd say these shoes are pretty solid. Tall and comfy! A winning shoe combination!

Las Vegas Trip 2014

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today is the day for me to share some tales of last week's Las Vegas trip with you. I'll have a separate post featuring some of the outfits I wore, but today I'll focus on what we did and some photos I took. This post is pretty picture heavy so you'll need to click through at some point to see the rest of it! (That is, if you're reading from the main page!)

Our main purpose of heading out to Las Vegas was for my sister, Jeanie's, 21st birthday. We flew out the afternoon before her birthday and checked into the Flamingo that evening. It was a family affair with my parents, aunt, & cousin, plus Jeanie's friend and Matt. After changing into some more Vegas appropriate clothes we found an awesome restaurant/bar called Taphouse that had about 100 different beers on tap. I had a delicious flight of Belgian beers. The food was super tasty too. (So tasty we went back and ate there our last night!) We wandered around the new addition next to Flamingo called The Linq where they had a bunch of cool shops, restaurants, and the new High Roller Ferris Wheel.

After dinner that first night we headed back to the room to pregame before Jeanie's official midnight birthday time. She had to wait another 3 hours to get to midnight Vegas time and that extra 3 hours crept by at a pace I didn't know was possible. We would be talking for what felt like an hour and look at the clock and only 15 minutes had gone by. Luckily her birthday finally rolled around and we went down to the casino then over to O'Sheas for beer and gambling.

On Jeanie's birthday we wandered around and I wore my new fantastic martini print dress. (You'll see it later.) We ate dinner at a tasty Irish pub, Nine Fine Irishmen where we all ate so much we were uncomfortable. Then they brought out a delicious buttery bread pudding that even the 8 of us couldn't finish. The highlight of the night absolutely had to be seeing Thunder From Down Under though! Yes, that was the show we girls went to see on Jeanie's birthday. If you haven't heard of it, it's a ridiculously fun Australian male stripper show. It was outrageous in the best way possible and I'd definitely go see it again next time I'm in Vegas. That night we walked to Caesar's Palace and gambled. Matt ended up winning $320 so we were having an exciting night!
