Halloween Outfit: Striped Dress over an Orange Blouse with Candy Corn Earrings

Sleeveless Black and White Fit and Flare Dress over an Orange Silk Button Down and Black Cutout Ankle Boots

Happy Halloween! You know I enjoy dressing in slightly themed clothes right around different holidays so here's one I wore to work this week. I don't get very many opportunities to wear my various Halloween earrings so I have to start with the Halloween-y outfits earlier than the day-of. This outfit featured my candy corn earrings, along with an orange silk blouse I thrifted recently layered underneath a sleeveless striped dress. I finished everything off with plain black tights and my cutout ankle boots. These boots always feel kind of witch-y to me so they're perfect for Halloween-inspired outfits.

Do you wear outfits inspired by holidays too? I know some people find that really corny but I've always been a fan of holidays and how they're something fun to look forward to peppered among all the regular days of life. Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday too!

Are you doing anything fun for Halloween? I don't really have plans for today but last night we went to a Halloween showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and it was hilarious and fun. I might just have a Halloween movie marathon and drink pumpkin beer tonight. We'll see!

Anyway, I hope you all have a super fun Halloween!

Outfit: Dark Floral Dress, Polka Dot Tights, Chunky Heels, and a Burgundy Leather Jacket

Dark Floral Print Dress, Polka Dot Tights, Chunky Black Heels, and a Burgundy Leather Jacket

This might be my favorite recent outfit so I hope you enjoy it too! I know the post right before this includes this burgundy leather jacket too, but I've been wearing it a lot. Something about the colored faux leather is so perfect for fall. This oxblood/burgundy/maroon shade pairs with so many other colors, but my favorite might be black. Here I styled it with some bold mixed prints: a dark floral print fit and flare dress and polka dot tights.

This was what I wore on a weekend trip to local Second Self brewery for their first anniversary party. I'd worn this dress and tights together to work earlier in the year but never photographed it. I kept remembering how much I liked the pairing, so here it is! The comfy chunky heels were perfect for being on my feet for hours and the jacket kept me dry on this slightly drizzly day.

I love the picture right above this, but do you know how difficult it is to get a picture with a crazy puppy? Be sure to check out my Instagram today for some really epic outtakes including quite possibly my favorite blog outtake ever. My face is delightful.

I'm pretty pumped it's Halloween week, how about you? It's my favorite holiday of the year and I'm glad it's on Saturday so I can watch my Halloween movie marathon. I'm going to try to get you a slightly Halloween-themed outfit at the end of the week but it's been super rainy here so don't hold your breath too long. I want to get back closer to my usual posting schedule even if that just means 2 times per week rather than the 1ish I've been doing the past couple months (because that's just sad.) Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading any of your festive posts and seeing your costumes!

Have a great rest of your week!

Outfit: Burgundy Leather Jacket, Green Skinny Jeans, and a Star Trek Tee

Oxblood Leather Jacket, Star Trek T-shirt, Khaki Green Skinny Jeans, and Pointed Ankle Boots

The weekend is almost over but that doesn't mean I can't show you a weekend outfit from a couple weeks ago! These pictures were taken right when we got our first true taste of fall weather so I threw on some boots, jeans, and a leather jacket while roaming around the neighborhood. It was kind of muggy so I ended up too hot for the jacket halfway down the BeltLine, but I enjoyed how the burgundy color looked with my green jeans while it lasted. This whole look is pretty simple but the interesting color combination, touch of pattern from the umbrella, and fun Star Trek graphic t-shirt make it something worth posting on a style blog. At least I think so!

How do you make a t-shirt and jeans more exciting? Not that it always has to be exciting. I've been enjoying wearing high-waisted jeans (both skinny and bell bottoms) with v-neck t-shirts, and leather jackets lately. Sometimes it's just a jeans and a t-shirt kind of day!

So how was your weekend? I hung out in Athens for the Terrapin Hop Harvest yesterday and then got my hair done and bummed around today. It's been a very nice fall weekend though! For whatever reason I'm really looking forward to Thanksgiving time now too. Maybe I'm just hungry!

Have a fantastic start to your week!

Work Outfit: Black Fit and Flare Dress with Leather Sleeves, Gray Tote, and Leopard Print Heels

Black Textured Fit and Flare Dress with Leather Cap Sleeves, Leopard Print Heels, and a Gray Tote Bag

This is one of the simplest kind of work outfit there is - a little black dress and heels. However, fun details make a simple outfit special. Details like classic leopard print and leather cap sleeves. I had a hard time passing up this dress in Target once I tried it on. It's so incredibly versatile while also having unique details like the leather sleeves and textured material. The leopard print Nine West heels were part of my Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors costume but I bought them because I knew they'd look good with almost anything. My gray tote bag is the purse I use for work every day. It fits a lot of tall notebooks and has plenty of room to carry a ridiculous amount of lipsticks.

I hope you don't find a simple look like this too boring, but sometimes it feels good to wear something classic like this!

So how has your week been so far? It's been nice and cool here in Georgia, finally. It's great to be able to wear tights and a jacket even though it's going to warm up later on this week. Fall weather always makes me so happy! I haven't had that much pumpkin food yet though which may be a travesty. Pumpkin beer, yes. Food, no. Coffee, no. Luckily I still have a few weeks left to do fall stuff like eat everything pumpkin and apple spiced in sight.

Have a great rest of your week and a happy Tuesday!

Outfit: Polka Dot Crop Top, Maroon Skater Skirt, and Pointed Cutout Ankle Boots

Polka Dot Forever 21 Crop Top, Maroon H&M Skater Skirt, and Black Boohoo Cutout Ankle Boots

This was one of those "fall" outfits I put together before the weather actually started to cool down. Luckily we're looking at nice cool temperatures this weekend and next week, but before that I had to go with bare arms and legs with fall colors and boots. I wore this walking around the Old Fourth Ward Fall Festival last month so I had to stay cool outside while wrangling an energetic puppy.

I've worn this top and skirt together before but never photographed it. Something about black and maroon just works perfectly. I paired my polka dot top and trusty maroon skirt with some cutout ankle boots from Boohoo (which are still a favorite of mine due to their comfort and super cool-ness) and a crystal necklace I won from a giveaway years ago and therefore can't remember where it was actually from. Sorry!

You get some bonus cute pictures of Riker in this post too. He's 5 1/2 months old now and weighs in at 40lbs. Maybe I'll get to a Riker update post sometime soon!

I didn't get a chance to post on my birthday on Wednesday - or the days after. I had a pretty low-key birthday filled with eating and drinking. It was nice, especially since I took a half day off work. I wore a super cool 80s does 50s white dress but didn't get a chance to take pictures. Guess I'll have to wear it again soon! I bet it'll look really cool with some patterned tights too.

Anyway, I hope you have a fun weekend ahead of you! Happy Saturday!

Work Outfit: Polka Dot Shift Dress, Teal Cardigan, and a Tree Branch Statement Necklace

Polka Dot Shift Dress, Tree Branch Statement Necklace, and a Teal Cardigan

Happy happy Monday! Well, it might not be that happy but we can pretend. I wore this polka dot shift dress to work over a month ago and am just now getting to posting it. This is a dress I've had since high school and it's still around. I think it was one of my fancier pieces back in the days of low rise skinny jeans and graphic t-shirts, and it happened to stick around all these years. It is a classic piece, after all (and it does make me happy that I'm the same size I was in high school.) My little polka dot dress turned out to be a great work piece paired with a colorful cardigan and some cute shoes. I added a statement necklace Happiness Boutique sent me over the summer for some extra interest.

Over the weekend I mostly caught up with all of your blogs and it made me so happy. I've been behind most of the year and especially since we got Riker. He sure takes up a lot of time! Luckily he's slowly learning and most days he behaves.

My birthday is also Wednesday so it better be good. At least it makes the week different! I don't really have any plans even though I should since it's my 25th birthday, but oh well. I don't really have a group of friends to plan anything so... I guess Matt and Riker and I will hang out.

Anyway, I hope you have a great week ahead of you!

Remix: Navy Blue Button Down Skirt

How to style a blue button down skirt
one | two | three

All of a sudden button down skirts are all the rage - particularly denim ones. I've been wearing button down skirts (both thrifted and bought) for years though. And no, that's not a hipster-y answer, it's the truth and you can see it in these pictures! They go all the way back to 2010! It's kind of weird to see that I've had this Forever 21 navy blue skirt in my wardrobe for over 5 years, but that just means it's a versatile and classic piece. (See, you can find great pieces that last at Forever 21, believe it or not.)

This skirt has been worn in summer and winter, with plenty of color and with neutral palettes. It's a flattering shape and it has elastic on the waist which means I can wear it throughout giant meals and holiday weight fluctuations. It's fantastic!

I still enjoy a lot of these outfits and would wear them again. I think my all-time favorite is number 8 here. 1, 2 and 3 are favorites too. It has to be a good sign that I still like the majority of my prior outfits right? Which of these looks is your favorite?

Do you have a button-down skirt yet or would you pick one up now that they're all over the place? Here's a hint: you can find button down skirts everywhere in thrift stores. Most of the time they just need to be hemmed!

And for fun, how would you style this skirt? Give me some ideas!

Have a happy happy rest of your week and as always, thanks for stopping by!

Dragon Con 2015: Super Sailor Moon and Sailor Jupiter Costumes

Sailor Jupiter and Super Sailor Moon Cosplay from Dragon Con 2015

I'm so excited to finally show you our Sailor Scout costumes from Dragon Con last month. I'm a little behind posting these pictures, but now that it's October, it's almost even more perfect to share these. A fantastic thing about Dragon Con is already having costumes ready to go once Halloween rolls around!

Sailor Senshi Costumes - Sailor Jupiter and Super Sailor Moon

Jeanie came to Dragon Con this year, so I knew I wanted to dress up in some sort of theme with my sister. (Mom and I did Star Trek costumes together last year - and this year too.) There is epic 90s childhood nostalgia tied to Sailor Moon and it was a costume I thought would be cute and fun. Anybody else remember watching Sailor Moon on Toonami on Cartoon Network many moons ago? Now I'm watching the reboot on Hulu and enjoying every minute of it - transformation scenes and theme song included! I even read the comics early this year. And I'm supposed to be an adult?

Sailor Jupiter was always Jeanie's favorite so Mom made her her signature green and pink dress. My costume was a take on Usagi's Super Sailor Moon look, minus the boots. We both went with Converse for comfort and the fact that Converse are just easier to find and can be used again in real life. When I wear this costume again I may find some tall red boots (and actually buy a tiara instead of using makeup to draw one) but this was perfect for a day spent wandering around the convention. I will say, wigs are an epic pain in the ass. It was by far the most uncomfortable part of the costume. This wig was heavy and the pigtails were constantly in the way. I don't know how women with super long hair deal with it! It was worth it though!
