The End is Near: Part Two

I can't believe the end of the year is here already. Every year time seems to move faster and faster. I'm not so sure I like that as I'm scared I'll wake up and all of a sudden be 70.

On to happier subjects, though! I'm currently partying it up in Tampa, Florida with the Redcoat band. I always love New Year's Eve, but usually spend it with my family so this is a bit different. Luckily my sister is here with me! I'm going to break out the champagne (sham-pag-in) and toast to a new year. Let's hope 2012 goes smoothly with plenty of fun things thrown in.

Now starts part two of my year recap. Enjoy!

channeling daphne & automatic poses with new glasses

styling up old concert t-shirts in different ways

guest posting & sailboat shirt in confusing Georgia weather

celebrating my 21st birthday with the best group of people ever

my Georgia Aquarium + World of Coke birthday gift from Matt

annual St. Augustine band trip

beating those pesky gators in my senior year

primary color love & black and white love

best dressed Redcoat & holiday times with the family

I've especially loved hanging with my family this last month of the year. I always enjoy coming home. The house was extra festive this year too, which made it even better than usual!

It's weird that the year is done, but I hope there'll be plenty of fun things to look forward to in the new year. I hope you're all celebrating appropriately (or inappropriately, what do I care?) and that your new year is fantastic! Thanks for supporting this little hobby of mine. You are all da bombs.

Happy New Year!

The End Is Near: Part One

The year is just about done, so I thought I'd do a recap of some of my favorite outfits and moments from 2011. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) I had a hard time choosing just a few. I hope next year has as many winning outfits (and moments) as I thought this year did.

Some of these outfits have never been featured on my blog because they're from when I only had a Chictopia account. That's not to say they wouldn't be featured at a later date if I'm feeling nostalgic, but anyway.

Shirt Jacket?

This one is from back at school earlier this month. I don't know why I didn't post it before, but here it is! I didn't know about the plaid shirt worn as a jacket. I thought it looked kind of sloppy after I took these pictures, but now I kind of like it! I always aim at looking somewhat put-together. Later that day I ended up buttoning and tucking in the plaid shirt.

shirt: thrifted
t-shirt, skirt, necklace, hair bow: forever 21
shoes: old navy

I'm currently planning some posts for the next few days as I'll be leaving for Florida on Thursday morning. It's nearly bowl trip time! We'll be there for New Year's Eve and I'm excited, but of course I have to have a New Year's post scheduled!

Happy Wednesday!

The Monday After

It's always kind of sad when Christmas is over. Good thing we leave all the decorations up for a little while afterward. We have to wean ourselves off of the holiday!

I wore this outfit for gift exchanging with my boyfriend. We had to do it a little early because he was going out of town. We got Thai food before and came back to my place to open our presents. Super exciting times!

dress, cardigan, tights, hair bows: forever 21
shoes: xhileration; target
belt: vintage 80's from Mom
earrings: thrifted

I don't go out shopping on the day after Christmas. It's way too crazy out there. I'd rather sit around in my pajamas until 3pm. I'll be reuniting with some old high school friends tonight though, so I'm pretty excited.  I hope everyone's holiday times went/are going well!

Happy Monday!

Christmas 2011

Ho ho ho! It's Christmas!

It's been a festive couple of days. Yesterday consisted of an appetizer feast and driving around to look at lights in the neighborhood. Today was a late breakfast and present-opening time.

Snowman cheese appetizer and me with creepy dancing Santa.

There's more pictures after the break:

Holiday Sweater Days

It's been quite crappy out lately so getting outside to take pictures is more difficult. I did it today, though! I was trying to get more use out of my thrifted sweaters, so I styled this one with a skirt and tights today. It felt really festive with the red tights.

I added a pin to make it even more holiday appropriate. I found this one in my drawer. I think my grandma gave it to me last Christmas maybe?

sweater: thrifted
skirt: forever 21
tights: kmart
boots: kmart
headband: forever 21
pin: gift

We didn't do anything particularly holiday-like today, but I like adding some Christmas spirit to my outfits on the week leading up to Christmas. Why not? Jeanie and I did go get unlimited soup, salad, and bread sticks at Olive Garden today. It was pretty exciting. We definitely got our money's worth out of that deal. Later on we hung out with some old, awesome friends and ate frozen pizzas. It was a good day.

Happy Thursday!

A Year Ago Today: December 21st

It's weird to think that a year ago we were frolicking in the snow and today the high was around 70 degrees. Then again, we were in Illinois last year and we're home in Georgia this year. I still really like the outfit I was wearing that day and even wore a variation of it last week.

top: thrifted
skirt: forever 21
jacket: thrifted
boots: kmart
tights: kmart

I make a lot of weird faces if you haven't noticed.

We had just thrifted a ton of blazers that year before we went up to visit everyone, so the giant blazers were in heavy rotation. Looking at these pictures makes me want to bring them out again. Too bad it's not cool enough for that!

I must have been really really excited!

The snow was really pretty last year. I don't really need snow to get into the Christmas spirit, just cool weather in general. Unfortunately it's pretty warm outside. All the decorations around the house make it more Christmasy though.

For those of you who commented on the cookies in my last post, thank you! My mom is the baker, though! She makes a huge variety of cookies every year and they're the best ever. My favorites are the coconut buttons. They're a coconut shortbread cookie with chocolate dipped on the bottom. In fact, I want one now.

Happy Wednesday!

Cookies For Lunch

Oh indoor pictures. You never turn out well, but it was dark and this outfit was a good one in my book. Super high waisted wool shorts are pretty festive. I even wore them to the dentist, they're that cool.
Also, there's a couple pictures of cookies in this post. I ate cookie and green tea lunch today. I plan on doing that tomorrow too.

Gingerbread with lemon curd in the center

This was the best outfit's saying something. The shirt is one of those weird half ones so the black bottom part is showing. Just letting you know I know this. Actually no. I'm starting a new trend. That's it.

Macaroons and coconut buttons. Yummy.

George got distracted by Dad and started running toward him when we were posing for this picture. I find it quite entertaining.

Hooray for being home!

Ten Dollar Boots

This outfit was from a little while back before the break, so I'm in my usual school spot by the brick wall. Hooray! I'm not really sure how I feel about this one. One of my buttons on the cardigan had just popped off. I'm also not sure how flattering these boots are, but they were $10 over the summer so the purchase was justified.

cardigan: forever 21
skirt: forever 21
tights: forever 21?
boots: sam's club
necklace: forever 21
bow: forever 21

I like this bow necklace. It seems to match with a ton of my outfits and it's festive for holiday times. I also wear this cardigan a lot when I need some pattern in an outfit because it's kind of neutral.
Yeah, not sure how I feel about these boots. Oh well!

Happy Monday!

Christmas Movie Favorites In No Particular Order: Part 2

I hope you're all having a relaxing Sunday. I know I am! Next week I'll probably be watching Christmas movies every day so in honor of that I now present you with Part 2 of my Christmas movie favorites!

6. Elf (2003):
We quote this movie year-round, but the quoting factor goes up exponentially once December hits. The quotable moments are magnanimous. I just love this film. It's happy and cute and hilarious. I can watch it over and over.
My sister and I quite often recreate the way one of the arctic creatures cries.

7. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966):
You gotta love this 22 minute TV special. The Grinch song is awesome. Have you ever listened to the lyrics? So great.

"You're a crooked jerky jockey, and you drive a crooked horse"
"You're a three-decker sauerkraut and toadstool sandwich with arsenic sauce"
"Your heart's a dead tomato splotched with moldy purple spots"
I like this animated special more than the 2000 movie. It's a simple, straight-forward rendition of the original book and I like that.
8. Frosty the Snowman (1969):
This one came on right after Rudolph on the old video tape. I have this one on DVD now too. It's just a nice, short special with a classic song. Who doesn't like good ol' Frosty? (Actually I'm pretty sure this movie annoys my mom. Ha.) I never did like that evil magician though.

9. Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town (1970):
If you haven't realized by now, I enjoy all these old stop motion/claymation movies. I always liked this one because it gave us Santa's origin story. They came up with so many neat ideas to explain the various facets of Santa. Plus Fred Astaire is the narrator, so that's pretty cool.
It's sometimes appropriate to break into the "Put One Foot in Front of the Other" song from this movie too.
10. Better Off Dead (1985)
Okay, this isn't really a Christmas movie per say. However it's snowy almost the entire movie and Christmas is included in it so it definitely has a holiday atmosphere. We like to quote this film all the time too. Particularly the way Mrs. Smith says the word "Christmas" while she's trying to get the French exchange student, Monique, to say it. Another favorite is how Lane's mom says the word "French" during the dinner scene.

Gift Exchanging: Jeanie Style

Since I posted my outfit for the holiday gift exchange yesterday, I figured it was appropriate to post my sister's outfit today! George is looming in these pictures too. He makes pictures so much cuter though, so I won't complain.
boots: urban outfitters
belt: thrifted

I don't think I would've picked out this Modcloth dress if I'd just seen it online, but Jeanie did and I really like it. It's a unique greenish neutral and the lace is really pretty. I enjoy the owl belt she paired with it too.

Jeanie is pondering what gift she would end up with at the gift exchange. [It was Christmasopoly. We're going to play it one of these nights. Can you play Monopoly with two people?]

It's been incredibly warm here for December. The high today is 71. Yes, 71 degrees. People are wearing shorts. At least, that's what I hear through the Facebook grapevine as I haven't left the house today. I like to place random lazy days among all my days off over the break.

Today I plan on tasting one of every cookie my mom bakes. I'll probably break out The Sims 3 too since I haven't played a video game since the summer. Right now I'm catching up on blogs and watching Like Mike with Jeanie. Did you know Jonathan Lipnicki [who plays Lil Bow Wow's best friend in this movie and is the little kid in Stuart Little] is my age? That blew my mind. I'm only eight days older than him. Thank you IMDB for expanding my useless knowledge database!

Happy Friday!
