Things I Love Thursday

Happy Thursday! It's a bit ironic that the very person from which I stole/borrowed this series idea linked me in her Thursday post today. Kaelah's are always much prettier than mine though!

Here are some internet finds from this week:

Striped Dress and Bright Pink Tights

Hello! My package of stuff from the Modcloth sale came over the weekend, so I've been pretty eager to wear my new things. This striped dress fit the least perfectly of the three dresses I bought, but I made it work. I paired some bright pink tights with it yesterday, but I'm sure any color would look nice with it. Perhaps a pair of polka dot tights would be nice too?

drawn to greyscale dress: modcloth | tights: kmart | studded flats: c/o sway chic | cardigan: so... - kohl's | belt: old

This probably sounds weird, but this mix of pink, gray, and black made it seem a little early 2000's pop-punk-ish. And I say that in the best way possible. My matching pink nails probably helped. I've decided I'm allowed to have a tiny soft spot for the pop-punk styles (and some of the wonderfully bad music) of my middle school days even though I didn't dress in that style then. I'm not saying this outfit looks like that time either, but the colors reminded me of some sort of Avril Lavigne thing.

These pictures were taken speedy fast because it was starting to sprinkle. Today there is a huge storm going across northern Georgia so there are tornado warnings and watches everywhere. Athens has a tornado watch even though it's not even storming here yet. If I don't return, I might have been sucked up by a tornado because there are no safe tornado-hiding places in my apartment. Oh well!

In other news, I have a strong urge to buy a bunch of makeup from NYX since hearing good things about their jumbo eye pencil. Then I started looking at lipstick and it was all downhill from there. If any of you buy stuff from there, give me some suggestions please! Or just suggest some lipstick colors. I've been looking for some that can be worn with a bolder eyeshadow look.

Okay. I'm rambling about makeup, so I'll stop and go back to watching the storm tracker. Happy Wednesday!

Tuesday Tunes: Tiga - Shoes

This is one of the weirdest songs and is also incredibly catchy. It's a talk-sung dance-y tune that will get stuck in your head no matter what. I have my cousin to thank for introducing me to this gem. It's so weird, I love it.   You can't go wrong with a song that repeats the lines, "I don't like my hair neat" and "these nails have served me well."

Please just listen to this and enjoy the replay in your head for days to come.

What's that sound?
I like that sound.
I love that sound.
It's the sound of my shoes.

Winterizing a Lace Dress with an Argyle Cardigan and Moccasins

I like trying to wear my spring and summer dresses in a winter-appropriate manner. It had been a while since I wore my off white lace dress, so it was definitely time. I actually came up with this outfit while I was hanging up clothes in my closet. I had the dress out on the bed and the gray argyle cardigan ended up on top of the dress. There was a tiny flashbulb moment and an outfit was born!

I wore this over the weekend while hanging out with my family. It's actually a pretty comfy outfit. Cardigans with dresses are usually the most comfortable clothes combinations for me.

dress, cardigan: forever 21 | moccasins: old navy | belt: thrifted | tights: target kids' section

I've had these moccasins since freshman year of college and they're still going strong. I didn't wear them all that much the past couple years, but I've been wearing them pretty frequently this winter. I just really like the color. Plus they add a nice touch of comfy cold-weather appropriateness to an outfit - just like they're doing in this outfit!
I actually bought this argyle cardigan around the same time as the shoes and used to wear them together with jeans. It's funny how I end up pairing them together again and again.

I have a ton of work to get done today, so unfortunately I'll be doing that for the next 10-12 hours. There might be a little bit of procrastinating in between though. I can only hope.

Happy Monday!

A Casual Zebra Blouse, Jeans, & Studded Flats Outfit

It was pretty cold on Tuesday so I figured a jeans outfit was necessary. Good thing I had a cute blouse ready to wear which made me look a little bit put-together. I thrifted this zebra print blouse over the summer and decided to wait until the temperature got cooler to wear it. Then I guess I waited even longer. Oops. I'll try my best to wear it a couple more times before it gets hot again.

It was totally necessary to wear my zebra print earrings with this blouse.

I really love these jeans I'm wearing here. They were only around $12 at Forever 21 and are clearly not built to last, but they're high-waisted and fit so well. It's hard to find high waisted jeans period, let alone a pair that fit nicely. I didn't even have to hem the legs and that's always a glorious thing!

Anyway, have a great weekend! I'll be keeping warm at home and visiting with George which is always a good way to spend the weekend. (Plus I'm sure I'll be procrastinating and pinning a billion recipes to my Pinterest food boards. Good times.)

Vintage Shopping and a Black & Mint Outfit

On Monday Jeanie and I headed downtown to spend some of our joint Starbucks giftcard, but ended up taking a detour and stopping at a vintage store I'd been wanting to check out for a while. Athens has a bunch of great thrift shops, but I rarely take advantage of them. It's hard to find a time for both Jeanie and I to be free during the daytime and I don't really have anybody else to go with. Thrifting is way more fun with a companion, I think! I didn't end up getting anything, but Minx Vintage was so cute I'll definitely be going back. I'm currently kicking myself for not buying the 60's floral sundress I saw there. Next time I'll remember the 1/2 off coupon that's sitting on my end table.

And...outfit intermission. I wasn't too impressed with this one. It's one of those times where I threw clothes on and it was a fail. I've had this skirt since freshman year of college and I used to love it, but now I look at it and it doesn't seem that flattering. Also in this picture it looks like shorts because it's so windy. I'll call this phenomenon "wind shorts".

Tuesday Tunes: The Snake The Cross The Crown - The Great American Smokeout

The Snake The Cross The Crown is fantastic, folksy indie rock. I feel  like not enough people know about this band. This song is on their 2007 album Cotton Teeth, but I also love their 2004 album Mander Salis, so make sure you check both of those out!

Happy Tuesday!

Leopard Print Blouse, Maroon Skater Skirt, & Retro Makeup

Hello and happy Monday everyone! I can't believe it's already Monday. Where did the weekend go? I guess I spent most of mine at band or trying to get a good amount of rest. Too bad I roll over onto my newly pierced ear about every hour.

Anyway, I wore this on Friday. I told you I'd have one more maroon skirt outfit and here it is! I promise next time I'll wear something else. My leopard print top looked so perfect with this skirt though! Too bad I only went to see a movie in this outfit. I ended up curling my hair after these pictures were taken, but there's only instagram proof of it. Next time I curl it maybe it'll end up in the outfit pictures!

leopard print silk top: thrifted | maroon skater skirt: h&m | tights: forever 21 | patent leather flats: thrifted vintage

Hey look it's my face! I was watching a bunch of pin curl tutorials on YouTube this day and everyone had pretty retro makeup on, so I had to go with the cat-eye liner and red lips. My slightly wavier hair is the result of a failed first time pin curl attempt. (Which would be why I curled it later. Such an enthralling story, I know.)

I failed to do anything particularly productive this weekend, yet again. That means plenty of school reading will happen today. I did learn a life lesson about pancakes on Sunday though. When making pancakes, don't use the Bisquick that was shoved to the back of the shelf because you will be eating something resembling the taste of pancake, but with the density of a piece of meat. Words of wisdom.

Happy Monday!

Novelty Print Top with My Maroon Skirt

I decided it was finally time to wear this silk shirt I thrifted probably a year ago. I planned on altering it in some way but that didn't happen, so here it is in all its novelty print goodness. Shoes, backpacks, and sunglasses cohabitate on a blueish-purple (or, as I like to call it: blurple) background. It really is a wondrous sight.

I styled my maroon skirt again, just like I said I would. It's my unofficial week-long challenge for most of the days I actually leave the apartment and have to look presentable. Perhaps you'll see one more outfit with it on Monday? I always like seeing how people remix different pieces in their wardrobe, so hopefully my readers like that too!

novelty print top: allison taylor - thrifted | skirt: h&m | boots: city classified - traffic | socks: kmart | ring: vintage - great grandma collection

nail polish: china glaze - secret peri-wink-le

Yes, I have bare legs in January. It's been pretty muggy and awful here. I'm ready for seasonal weather to come back and I'm pretty sure that's blowing in today. Huzzah!

Anyway, I really don't have much to talk about. It's been kind of a boring week. Maybe I'll finally get to catch up on some stuff this weekend, but then again probably not. I have two basketball games to play at this weekend. (In the band, not the game itself. Because I know you thought I'm the shortest collegiate basketball player in the land.) So if you see a UGA basketball game on TV this weekend, you'll hear me - and the rest of the band - playing!

Have a great weekend! Happy Friday!

Maroon Skirt, Yellow Cardigan, & Plenty of Polka Dots

I love this skirt I bought over winter break! I think I could wear it a hundred different ways and it's so very flippy. I may just wear it the rest of the week and see what other outfits I come up with. I know you guys won't judge me for that.

I wore almost this exact same outfit while I was up in Illinois, but I didn't get very great pictures of it. I'll post a few here so you can see though. All I did this time was change up the tights, shoes, and add a tie around my neck. My hair was much cooler the first time too thanks to Mom's super hair skills. Maybe some day I'll wake up early enough to style my hair differently than just down and brushed.

skirt: h&m | cardigan: target | blouse: delia's | tights: kmart | boots: thrifted | polka dot scarf tie (actually a belt off of some pants): forever 21

In the first version of this outfit I was wearing my super cool leopard tights. Unfortunately they have a snag already. Sad times. These pictures are also in the unique setting of bedroom at Grandma's house. Hooray!

Sorry I've been a little absent here lately. I've been getting back into the swing of school. It's been super warm and muggy here so I haven't been very inspired to get dressed on the days when I don't have class. It's kind of boring around here. Last weekend I went and got another ear piercing, so that's about the peak of excitement for the past week. I can't wait to change out the jewelry and show you guys my cool conch piercing. That's as long as it heals up correctly!

Anyway, happy Wednesday!

Tuesday Tunes: Mother Mother - Bit By Bit

I've had this song stuck in my head on and off since I drove back to school. I've really been loving Mother Mother lately. They're right up my mood alley. (That's a thing, right? Well now it is.) Enjoy!

Happy Tuesday!

December Favorites

This is super belated, but I figured I'd go ahead and put this post together anyway. I was just so behind on reading everyone's blogs! That's kind of how I feel about everything lately though. I'm always needing to catch up on something and feel like I'm not making any progress. But enough rambling, here are some of my favorite outfits from December!
