Turtleneck Sweater, Maroon Skater Skirt, Yellow Tights, & Boston Terrier Flats

Happy Friday everyone!
I wore this outfit on a trip to the library. Can I profess my love of the public library right now? Because I seriously love it. Walking out of there with free books - as many as I can read in a 3 week time frame - is glorious. Plus ours has online audio-books and e-books now so I can listen to audio-books during my commute. Hooray libraries!

But anyway, this is one of my newly thrifted mock turtleneck sweaters. It's really cozy and a versatile oatmeal shade. I paired it with my trusty maroon skater skirt and a pair of bright yellow tights. My two Boston Terrier items are on display again here too. I seriously can't stop wearing them together. It's a problem. I also wore an Avengers print hair bow because why not?

Can you believe it's the last day of January already? Time is flying by! I hope you guys all had a nice week. I'm planning on having a fun weekend. Tomorrow Matt and I are going to brew some beer together so that should be fun. I'll try to let you know how that goes.

Have a great weekend!

Remix: Black Ruffled Lace Skirt

It's time for another remix post! I've had this lace ruffled skirt from Forever 21 for ages now. I think I bought it in 2010 and it's still going strong! It's a little short but it's still acceptable with tights and during those hot summer months. Plus I like my legs, so I'll wear short skirts as long as I'm young enough not to get strange looks. I just have to be diligent not to let my butt show because the general public doesn't need to see that.

Anyway, here are some ways I've worn this skirt over the years. As you can see, it works for all seasons! It's amazing how versatile a ruffled skirt can be. (Since I've had this skirt longer than my blog, some of the links lead to my old old Chictopia posts instead. I hope you don't mind!)

If you guys saw my Instagram post yesterday you probably saw that it snowed here in Georgia. Almost everything is shut down today so I get a day off! I guess that's the perk of living in a state that doesn't know how to salt roads before it snows. My drive home yesterday was ridiculously slow and I left at 1:15pm because there was a mass exodus out of Atlanta. If I'd had left an hour later I probably would've been stuck in the Atlanta gridlock for many many hours. The roads weren't even bad when I left though! It was just wet but the people all lose their minds when it snows. I saw multiple cars on the side of the road that somehow managed to spin out on imaginary ice while going 2mph. I was glad to get home simply to get away from the idiot drivers.

But that's my story. Happy snow day and happy Wednesday!

Blue Crushed Velvet Dress, Leather Jacket, & Polka Dot Tights

Happy Monday everyone!
I re-discovered this blue crushed velvet dress packed away under my bed with other winter clothes. It fits a little big up top so I don't wear it as often as I could. I figured I better wear it this year or it isn't worth holding on to. I really like how it looked with my polka dot tights and a leather jacket. I actually went to see a roller derby bout in this outfit! If only I was cool enough (and had enough time and wasn't scared of getting elbowed in the face...) to try out roller derby!

Do you guys have any pieces in your wardrobe you don't wear very often but still hold on to? I'm sure you do! I have plenty. I'm getting to the point where I need to purge some stuff though. Particularly non-classic things that I haven't really worn and things I thrifted but never altered. I'll definitely do that over the summer!

I hope you guys have a great Monday!

Perfect Dresses for Valentine's Day 2014

Happy Sunday! Since Valentine's Day is around the corner I figured it was time to look at pretty dresses. Unfortunately I don't have the funds to buy a new dress for Valentine's Day, but I can still look at them! I would be happy to wear any of these dresses for a date night. As you can see, I gravitate toward the traditional red and pink colors of the holiday, but I also really love a nice white lace dress or a blue dress for the occasion. You can definitely rock any color for Valentine's day! I just tend to add heart details or wear romantic lace to keep with a festive Valentine theme.

Blue Patterned Trousers, Polka Dot Blouse, Boston Terrier Flats, & a Galaxy Bow

Happy Friday everyone! Here's an outfit I've already worn twice because I love it so much. I picked up these blue patterned trousers from Target over winter break. They were on clearance for something around $7 and fit so well that I had to buy them! I really love this shade of blue and I like that the pattern is subtle enough to easily pair with other prints while still being more interesting than solid blue trousers.

This time I wore them with my polka dot blouse, Boston Terrier flats and necklace, and a galaxy print hair bow. It was only appropriate to wear two Boston Terrier items, right? Jeanie bought me both of them for Christmas and they're kind of made to be worn together, I think.

I would seriously wear a version of this outfit to my internship but I'm still waiting on my logo cardigans to come in, so I can't. We have to be wearing something with the logo and all I have is two shirts. I've been stretching my fashion brain to find different ways to wear the same two shirts in a work appropriate manner. Actually I could probably wear one of my logo-ed shirts with these trousers next week! Hooray for getting ideas while blogging!

This week of my internship was much better than the last. I finally know when to leave the house for my commute so that's less stressful. There's a window when I can leave in the morning and not be stuck in traffic for 2 hours, but rather an hour and 15 minutes or so. I also figured out how to borrow free audio books from the library onto my phone so I'm not so bored sitting in traffic! I got to know my coworkers better too and have been having more fun at the office because of that. It's good. I just wish my commute wasn't so crappy!

Have a great weekend!

Vintage Lacoste Cardigan, Leopard Print Top, & Corduroy Shorts

This vintage Lacoste cardigan and my leopard print blouse is becoming a favorite combination. I don't know what it is about leopard and this shade of blue but I love it. I found this cardigan while scouring Goodwill sweaters in Illinois over winter break. The color is wonderful and the thing is in great shape for being late 50s/early 60s.

I wore almost this same outfit before with my high-waisted skinny jeans so I figured it'd look equally good with my trusty corduroy shorts. I'm not sure which outfit I liked better but I'm sure I'll be wearing a version of this again!

P.S. Here's yet another new hair bow made by my cousin. It's so plaid-tastic!

cardigan: lacoste - thrifted | shorts: forever 21 | blouse: thrifted | boots: thrifted | necklace: forever 21 | bow: handmade

After writing this post I just realized most of this outfit is thrifted. I always love when that happens! Plus it was comfortable which is always a plus. It's hard to make an outfit with these corduroy shorts uncomfortable though...

I hope you guys are having a nice week. I'm slowly getting used to having only a couple hours of non-working, non-sleeping, non-commuting time per day. (Being adult-ish is hard!)

Tuesday Tunes: Painted Palms - Spinning Signs

I have a very new song to share with you today! Since I'm doing a lot of commuting I get to listen to my satellite radio a lot and therefore I hear plenty of new songs on the indie rock station. I heard this song by Painted Palms on Sunday and loved it. I'm going to need the whole album. They remind me of The Beatles mixed with the Of Montreal album Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies. It's a very cool sound.

I hope you give this song a listen! Maybe you'll discover a new band this week too!

Happy Tuesday!

Polka Dot Shorts, Pink Tights, a Mock Turtleneck Sweater, & Vintage Pin

Happy Monday everyone!

I really love these polka dot shorts, but unfortunately they're starting to die. Some seams are coming apart and hems are fraying. I guess that makes sense since they were something around $12 and I've worn them a ton of times. I'll have to snatch up a new pair when I come across some. They're so versatile! I especially love them paired with brightly colored tights like these pink ones. I also wore my newly thrifted black mock turtleneck sweater in this outfit! I never thought I'd be into turtleneck-ish things, but now look at me. I love the way this outfit turned out!

sweater: thrifted | shorts: forever 21 | tights: kmart | shoes: croft & barrow - kohl's | pin: vintage from great grandma

I'm hoping this week goes more smoothly than last week. The weekends never last long enough, but I'm sure it'll seem like that for the rest of my life. I'm having a hard time managing my small amount of free time. If only I didn't need to sleep...

Have a great start to your week!

Little Mermaid Shirt, Houndstooth Mini Skirt, Teal Cardigan, & Bow Print Tights

Happy Thursday everyone! Here's an outfit I wore featuring not one, but two Little Mermaid items. Jeanie bought me this Little Mermaid shirt for Christmas and I love it. I figured it was only appropriate to pair it with a new Little Mermaid hair bow made by my cousin! I also mixed my houndstooth mini skirt and bow print tights for some fun pattern mixing. I always enjoy wearing those two pieces together. This skirt hardly looks like houndstooth from far away though. Oh well! I assure you it is.

These bow print tights are one of my favorite pairs. I'm going to be so sad when they get a hole so big I can't wear them anymore! If I find a backup pair I'll definitely buy them!

Sorry I've been slacking in blog land lately. I started a full time internship this week and I'm doing that - including commute - for about 12 hours per day. It's hard to find time to do anything else other than work and sleep. Hopefully I'll fall into a more balanced schedule at some point, but until then I'm sorry for being a slacker.

Have a great rest of your week!

A Holiday Outfit: Blue Lace Dress, Black Capelet, and Sparkly Heels

You guys are probably getting sick of my Illinois outfits. I'm sorry! I wore a lot of clothes there? I'm finally getting through my backlog so you'll be seeing more recent stuff very soon.

This is actually what I wore on Christmas Eve, so it's a little fancier than my usual outfits. Any excuse to break out this black cape (capelet?) is a good enough excuse for me. I spent more than I should have on it and I hardly get to use it because capes, while adding instant classiness, are kind of an awkward bit of outerwear. Like what do you do with your arms if they're not covered? I solved that issue by wearing a black cardigan underneath which may have negated some of the classiness of the cape, but oh well. Warmth is important.

dress: modcloth | capelet: prabal gurung - target | tights: forever 21 | shoes: madden girl - shoe carnival | necklace: gift | belt: thrifted

It was windy so enjoy my goofily parted bangs.

This blue lace dress is actually one of my favorite Modcloth purchases, but I've only worn it for special occasions. I fully intend on styling it in a more casual manner as soon as I have the chance. You can't see it in the pictures but it has a slight sparkle in the lace which equals fanciness in my book. How would you wear a dress like this on a casual day?

I know I don't say this enough, but thank you for reading my blog and being so kind in your comments. I'm hoping this blog will continue to improve in the new year and that you still enjoy seeing what I'm wearing and whatever other things I post about!

Happy Monday!
