Las Vegas Trip 2014

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today is the day for me to share some tales of last week's Las Vegas trip with you. I'll have a separate post featuring some of the outfits I wore, but today I'll focus on what we did and some photos I took. This post is pretty picture heavy so you'll need to click through at some point to see the rest of it! (That is, if you're reading from the main page!)

Our main purpose of heading out to Las Vegas was for my sister, Jeanie's, 21st birthday. We flew out the afternoon before her birthday and checked into the Flamingo that evening. It was a family affair with my parents, aunt, & cousin, plus Jeanie's friend and Matt. After changing into some more Vegas appropriate clothes we found an awesome restaurant/bar called Taphouse that had about 100 different beers on tap. I had a delicious flight of Belgian beers. The food was super tasty too. (So tasty we went back and ate there our last night!) We wandered around the new addition next to Flamingo called The Linq where they had a bunch of cool shops, restaurants, and the new High Roller Ferris Wheel.

After dinner that first night we headed back to the room to pregame before Jeanie's official midnight birthday time. She had to wait another 3 hours to get to midnight Vegas time and that extra 3 hours crept by at a pace I didn't know was possible. We would be talking for what felt like an hour and look at the clock and only 15 minutes had gone by. Luckily her birthday finally rolled around and we went down to the casino then over to O'Sheas for beer and gambling.

On Jeanie's birthday we wandered around and I wore my new fantastic martini print dress. (You'll see it later.) We ate dinner at a tasty Irish pub, Nine Fine Irishmen where we all ate so much we were uncomfortable. Then they brought out a delicious buttery bread pudding that even the 8 of us couldn't finish. The highlight of the night absolutely had to be seeing Thunder From Down Under though! Yes, that was the show we girls went to see on Jeanie's birthday. If you haven't heard of it, it's a ridiculously fun Australian male stripper show. It was outrageous in the best way possible and I'd definitely go see it again next time I'm in Vegas. That night we walked to Caesar's Palace and gambled. Matt ended up winning $320 so we were having an exciting night!

The next day Matt and I walked approximately 14 miles up and down the strip and inside casinos. We hung with the girls for a while and checked out the gorgeous botanical garden in Bellagio where we proceeded to take pictures with fake horse asses. They wanted to go back to Flamingo so Matt and I kept wandering around Vegas, popping into various casinos and spending little bits of money. I wasn't super lucky that day but Matt did pretty well. We bought a giant slushy drink and took advantage of the lack of open container laws. Meanwhile we'd lost everyone else and they went on the giant Ferris Wheel without us so I have that on my to-do list for our next Vegas trip.

The last day I bought a "Billionaire Dog" from Haute Doggery for breakfast/lunch/first meal. (Meals kind of happen whenever on Vegas vacation time.) It had foie gras, truffle mayonnaise, and port onion marmalade on it. It sounds weird, but it was super tasty. Later I quenched my craving for a bloody mary with one that had a lobster claw garnish. Vegas-tastic. We also shopped at a gigantic Forever 21, redeemed some free slot play at Casino Royale, and dodged club promoters that day. Some guy called me a piece of "white chocolate" too, so there's that. I decided to take it as a compliment since I can keep that descriptive phrase in my back pocket for next time I have to tell someone about myself.

We ended the trip last Saturday and I definitely wasn't ready to leave yet. I was having fun! Before checking out of the hotel I played a Twilight Zone slot machine and won some of my money back so I left on a positive note. The plane trip back was better than the one going there. The trip back I didn't get a bra/boob pat down nor singled out to be tested for handling explosives! Hooray! Apparently I looked suspicious and my bra was evil on the trip there. I'm sure there are things I'm leaving out plenty of fun things that happened, but all-in-all it was a great trip! Now we're home. I'm trying to get back to real life but real life is weird now anyway.

Have you ever been to Las Vegas? If so, what was your favorite part and what would you recommend for next time I make my way out there?

Never have been a big gambler, and never have been to Vegas, but it sounds like you had an awesome trip!

The only time I truly gambled, besides buying the occasional lottery ticket, was when the first casino in town opened. I played penny slots and ended up making $40 in a half hour or so. Then I was done. Lol.

It sounds like Vegas is worth the trip for the eateries and shows alone, though. :)

With that red hair and sequin skirt of yours, you're totally looking like Ariel in Vegas, Jamie. I absolutely love it, and love all the pictures you took. I'm glad you enjoyed your time there!

Looks like great fun! Can't help associating some of the images with CSI Las Vegas, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Oceans 11, etc.
Do you think Vegas would be a good place to spend a weekend even if the person would never ever be into gambling? x
