The Fringe Off: Styling Metallics

The Fringe Off Collaboration Antique Gold Sequined Skirt Green Henley and Lace Up Flats

Happy Christmas Eve and welcome to another The Fringe Off collaboration post! This time we're each styling metallics in different ways. I feel like metallic clothes and accessories are always in style around the holidays (although I wish more people wore them throughout winter since those months can be so drab.) I figured it would be a fun challenge to style this festive sequined skirt for a more casual day. Also this is probably the only metallic item available to me right now since most of my wardrobe is in a storage unit. #sad

To make this skirt more appropriate for a day of shopping, present-wrapping, and wedding photographer research, I styled it with a very casual green ribbed t-shirt, my faux leather jacket, and a pair of black lace up flats from Modcloth. As far as I know nobody even looked twice at me while I wandered around Target for a ridiculously long amount of time.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend if you're celebrating and a great weekend otherwise. I feel like I'm so behind on your blogs and lives and I'm so sorry. Right now I'm up north celebrating with family (after a long drive) and am looking forward to fun times with lots of delicious food. Tell me what you're up to so I can live vicariously through you!

Thanks again for stopping by and taking the time to read this little blog - especially those of you who've been around for years. Please be sure to check out all the other Fringe Off bloggers' metallic-inspired outfits for some festive outfit inspiration! (You can find the links under the image below.) Everyone is so festive in their layers and sparkly pieces.

Merry Christmas!!

Outfit: Blue Tights, Maroon Skirt, Leather Jacket, and Leopard Flats

Jo Totes Abby Leather Jacket Maroon Skater Skirt Blue Tights Leopard Flats from Target

I wear this skirt a lot.

It's the perfect skater skirt length, a slightly heavy material so it doesn't blow up in the wind too easily, and an extremely versatile maroon color. I styled it in my last outfit post too, but I hope you don't mind!

I spent a good amount of the weekend sorting through and editing my pictures from my trip to Europe and picked out a few of this outfit I wore in Bruges. I loved the way the blue tights and maroon skirt photographed together, especially when paired with my leopard print flats from Target! I topped everything off with my faux leather jacket which is on top of a gray mock turtleneck shirt that you can barely see here. It was too cold to walk around jacket-less!

My Jo Totes bag here, the Abby model in black, was purchased new for the trip and was the absolute perfect size for traveling Europe. I needed something not too big to be burdensome while wandering around but that could still fit the essentials. I fit my camera in there with a zoom lens, an extra 50mm fixed lens, my phone, our passports, extra camera cards, the pocket wi-fi, many cords, and two battery bricks to charge stuff. Not too bad!

So how is your December going so far? I'm still kind of in shock that it is, in fact, December at all. I'm somewhat ready for Christmas festivities but have been mostly preoccupied with wedding research. My venue is all booked so we can officially start finding and booking other vendors. Exciting! And stressful. Other than that, not a whole lot is up.

I apologize for the slowdown in posting the past few months. I hope to get back to a regular schedule once we find a new place to live again! Thanks for sticking around if you're reading this!

Happy Sunday!

Outfit: Lace Up Top, Skater Skirt, Patterned Tights, and Novelty Pins

Patterned Tights Maroon Skater Skirt Lace Up Shirt Novelty Pins

Happy Saturday to you! For this post-Thanksgiving weekend, here's an outfit that really represents my fall style this year before we head into Christmas-y holiday times. Something trendy, something trusty, cool tights, and novelty pins.

I found these tights from last year in a drawer (I'd forgotten they exist) and love them. They're the kind I'm scared to wear too often because I don't want them to get ruined. The top is new from H&M, the skirt is old from H&M, and my awesome novelty pins were a birthday present from my sister. Barb from Stranger Things and FBI badge Simpsons Mulder are the perfect touches for any outfit!

In non-outfit-related news, wedding planning is chugging along even though it's a year away. We spent Black Friday wedding dress shopping and I ended up buying the second dress I tried on - after trying a few more after it! I'm excited to wear it! Everything's getting real.

I have a four-day weekend for the holiday so I've mostly been spending it online shopping, playing with the dog, and nursing a cold. Nothing exciting outside of wedding dress shopping but that's enough excitement to make up for a whole month's excitement, I think. How has your weekend been? And have you picked up anything good with all the sales going on?

Have a happy rest of your weekend!

The Fringe Off: Styling Ruffles

White Ruffled and Lace Up Shirt Plaid Mini Skirt Yellow Tights Clogs

It's been nearly a year since our last The Fringe Off collaboration - see how we styled tacky Christmas sweaters last winter - but here we are again styling ruffles! Be sure to check out how everyone else styled this trend at the end of this post.

The ruffled shirt, the star of this post, is from Forever 21 and combines two recent trends: lace up and ruffles. My plaid skirt is a new favorite that I got from Primark when I was over in Scotland last month. The brown clogs are from Kork Ease's less expensive brand, Korks, and they're the comfiest things. I'll be so sad when they wear out.

This outfit is one of my favorites I've put together lately. I'm excited it's finally cool enough for tights at home because I think the mustard yellow tights add a lot to this look. It all just seems very "fall" to me! It's also been interesting seeing how my clothes and usual color schemes look with blonde hair instead of red.

And in case you wanted to see it - here's my "travel" engagement ring below. It's vintage with mixed metal and green garnet and is super pretty. My fancy one is being made but I think this one is pretty fancy itself! Once the other one arrives, I'll probably wear this one on my right hand most days. "Why would anyone need two engagement rings?" you may ask. Answer: Matt didn't want to drag along a pricey ring on our 2+ week trek through 4 countries but still wanted to propose with a ring while over there.

Be sure to check out everyone else in The Fringe Off's awesome blog posts styling ruffles. I hope they inspire you to try out this often-recurring trend! Have a fantastic weekend!

Outfit: Wide Legged Jeans with a Striped Top and Little Mermaid Funko Pop Necklace

Wide Legged Target Jeans Navy Blue Tee Funko Pop Little Mermaid Necklace

Being under 5 feet tall can make finding certain clothes nearly impossible. Take bell bottom jeans for example. People say, "Oh you can hem them!" Wrong. Once hemmed, the flared awesomeness - the part that makes them "bell," disappears. This means we vertically challenged have to find jeans actually made for our non-Amazonian legs. This is a challenge.

Since I've been seeing more bell bottoms and wide-legged jeans online, I didn't hesitate to try on the pair I noticed at Target a couple months ago. They were marked with an "R" for regular length which is a glorious mark in my mind because that usually means that an "S" for short exists somewhere in the universe. Luckily I was right as I tried on the regular length and they were much, much too long for me. I immediately went online, found the short version (they're still online!), and ordered them. Here they are in their wide-legged splendor!

I've actually been wearing these jeans to work a lot paired with various blouses or t-shirts and cardigans. The dark wash makes them pretty versatile. Here's a very casual styling of them. with an old striped shirt (that I probably should get rid of by now since it's a little faded) and my super awesome Little Mermaid Funko Pop necklace that I got at this year's Dragon Con.

So what do you think? Have you gotten on board with any styles of jeans outside the usual skinny jeans? I wear both still and enjoy that so many styles are "in style" at the same time.

And how has your week been? I spent way too much at the Sephora 20% off sale and picked up some cool dresses at Ross that I'll show you soon. I'm just getting super excited for Thanksgiving and a couple days off to lounge around the house, eat food and watch TV - particularly the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. What are your plans for the next couple weeks? I'd love to hear about them!

Have a fantastic rest of your Sunday!

Outfit: Striped Mock Turtleneck and Maroon Skater Skirt

Striped Turtleneck Crop Top and Maroon Skater Skirt

You guys. This is the last set of outfit pictures I have with my red hair, so please enjoy. [Edit: Nevermind. Just found another set.] I love the red but I needed a change! This outfit is also incredibly summery, but I guess that's okay with the unseasonably warm weather that's been going on in the US lately. This is the last warm weather look you'll see from me this year! I'd still wear this skirt and top in our Georgia fall with a pair of tights, a cardigan, and flat black boots. It's all about remixing for different seasons! Especially when half of my wardrobe is in a storage unit.

Now that I've thrilled you with talk about my outfit, how is your fall going so far? Mine is getting pretty exciting/busy with the beginning of wedding planning all while the usual work stuff is going on. Matt and I even looked at a venue this weekend. It's getting real! Well - like a year from now. Even though we're still looking for an affordable place to live in the city, life is going pretty well. It should be an exciting year ahead.

So let me know how your life has been. I'm so behind on all your blogs, especially after my long trip to Europe. (I'm sorry!!) I didn't even get caught up on all my emails until today! Vacation really throw off my schedule.

Anyway, have a fantastic week ahead of you! Thank you for stopping by!

DragonCon 2016: Spider-Gwen Costume

Spider-Gwen Cosplay Dragon Con 2016

It's almost Halloween (yay!) so I'm excited to finally show you my Spider-Gwen cosplay that I wore at Dragon Con last month. (If you're not familiar, Spider-Gwen is an alternate universe comic where Gwen Stacy was bitten by the spider instead of Peter Parker. Go read it!) Being under 5 feet tall, it can be hard to find full body costumes like this and it's also difficult to make one from a pattern since they're made for average proportions.

This time I decided to purchase a custom-sized bodysuit from Zentai Zone instead of buying a pattern, re-proportioning it in Photoshop, having the Spider-Gwen fabric printed, etc... It took about 2 weeks for it to be made and delivered and it was pretty perfectly sized to me. Should I order another, I would add 1/2 - 1 inch to the torso size since the back zipper makes it so there's not as much give there. Other than that, perfect.

The rest of the costume was purchased on Amazon. The wig was leftover from my Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors costume I wore last year and the ballet flats were basic and comfy. I got quite a lot of positive comments from the other congoers!

Outfit: Green Corduroy Skirt, Mock Turtleneck, and Gray Leopard Print Heels

Fall Outfit - Green Corduroy A-Line Skirt Gray Mock Turtleneck Leopard Heels

Hey! It's me again. I still exist. This is the longest I've gone without blogging since I started this blog in 2011, but I'm going to give myself an excuse since I was out of the country for more than two weeks. It's been very hard for me to find time to blog after work with my commute too and unfortunately that probably won't change for a bit longer. I'm back to share a warm weather fall outfit with you though!

Before heading off to Europe, I decided to treat it like back to school wardrobe shopping and pick up a few new things that would be easily remixable. I found this dark green corduroy skirt and gray mock turtleneck top at H&M and wore them each multiple times throughout the trip. They're just good basic pieces to have in general. This is a look I put together the week before I left which included some fun accessories to spice it up - my gray leopard print heels and a Cat Scully pin by Danielle V Green

So I definitely have more to share with you since I've been away. Some of you have been following along on Instagram so you know that Matt and I got engaged on our trip. (Yay!) I want to show you pictures from my trip too! More to come on that - promise.

Halloween is coming up soon too so I'm pretty pumped about that. It's my favorite holiday, after all. I haven't decided on my costume but it's sure to be one of my Dragon Con costumes which I plan on sharing with you this week too! Let's get this blog back on track!

Have a happy start to your week!

Outfit: Striped Khaki Green Shift Dress with Lace Up Flats

Striped Khaki Green Shift Dress Black Pointed Lace Up Flats

Here it is! The blonde hair is officially on the blog for all of you non-Instagram followers to see. It may be a shock for some of you but it's been on my head for a couple of weeks now and I'm loving the change. My hair had been red for 11 years so it was good to do something different for a change.

For my blonde debut on the blog I styled what may be my new favorite dress with a new pair of lace up flats from a Modcloth sale. I honestly wish this dress came in a bunch of colors because it's the perfect loose but not too loose fit on me. Forever 21 advertised it as a bodycon dress but it very much is not that. It's fantastically comfy and I'll definitely be bringing it with me to Europe to wear with tights and black boots. (As for now, I'm still donning bare legs because it's like walking on the sun in Georgia still.)

I hope you've been having a good week and had a happy Monday. I'm just prepping for our big trip and getting pumped for lots of fun, tasty food, and exploring. We're both so excited! I'll miss our dog baby while we're gone but he'll be in good hands with my family, lounging on the couch and getting lots of treats. If you have any good tips for Berlin or Prague, I welcome them. We'll have 3 full days in each city. We'll also visit Bruges and Edinburgh but I've been to both of those cities and feel pretty comfortable navigating them and finding the places we need to go. I'll also be celebrating my birthday in Edinburgh so that's pretty exciting!

I apologize if you don't hear from me for a while because I'll be traveling, but I'll try my best to post again before we head out this weekend. You can follow along on my adventures via Instagram @JahmieRose

Happy Monday!

Outfit: Futurama Cat Pin, Dotted Crop Top, Colorful Skater Skirt, and Black Sneakers

Blue Skater Skirt Black Dotted Crop Top Purple Socks Black Classic Gym Shoes

I must be on a colorful skater skirt kick lately, so I apologize, but here's another outfit featuring one I've had for quite a while but don't wear nearly enough. In my previous outfit post I styled a colorful skater skirt for work, so here's an outfit I definitely wouldn't wear to work featuring a short skirt and crop top combination. It's perfect for these hot days we're still having in Georgia.

The true star of this outfit is my awesome cat Leela pin from Danielle V Green Illustrations. She has a whole Halloween cat line with cats dressed as various characters. I love them so much. I bought two others that you'll see here at some point too - cat Ariel and cat Scully. I keep wearing them to work. I don't even care if people start thinking I'm weird. I like my cat pins to be dressed as my favorite pop culture characters!

Anyway, I played off the Leela pin and wore some purple socks (to match her hair.) I also enjoyed the combination of the blue from my skirt and the bright purple socks. The black sneakers here are a rarely worn pair from the kids' section of Target.

In other news, happy weekend to you! It's officially two weeks until Matt and I travel to Berlin, Bruges, Prague, and Edinburgh. I know some of you were wondering so that's our itinerary! There'll definitely be pictures shared here afterward and a whole crapload on Instagram and Instagram stories. But that's two weeks from now. Now we're just prepping for vacation and hanging with Riker. It's not even 11 p.m. and I'm ready for bed too. On a Saturday. I'm the height of cool.

How's your weekend going? Doing anything fun? I'm thinking about going to the county fair tomorrow and suitcase shopping. Are you up to anything more exciting than that? Because it's probably likely to be more exciting.

Anyway, have a great rest of your weekend and feel free to follow along on Instagram, Twitter or Snapchat (@jahmierose) for more content!
