6 Reasons Why Bloggers Should Use Snapchat

Snapchat is the coolest social network around (as of right now, of course!) Currently, the app lacks measurable analytics or ways for small companies to advertise, but it's where eyeballs are, which means it can be a powerful branding tool. In fact, it had 50 million monthly users in April 2016, beating Twitter app users! If you're marketing your blog, you need to be where people are paying attention. So why aren't you on Snapchat yet?

6 Reasons Bloggers Should Use Snapchat to Market Their Blogs

Companies are just recently figuring out how to use Snapchat to promote their brands, but bloggers (particularly vloggers and beauty bloggers) have already begun to use the app to their advantage. Here are six reasons why bloggers should be on Snapchat (along with some beautiful saved snaps of my own to entertain you):

1. It lets your followers get to know you better -
Snapchat can give your viewers a behind-the-scenes look at your life. Generally people share snippets of things they wouldn't necessarily blog about or post on a more curated social network like Instagram.

2. It's less polished than other social networks -
You may be wondering why that's a good thing. Well, in a world of curated social profiles - think about your Instagram and Facebook pages - people like to see a glimpse of "real" raw life. We're all pummeled with perfect, Photoshopped images and highly edited content so it's refreshing to see content that isn't any of those things.

3. It's another way to promote your blog -
Are you collaborating with a new brand? Share a preview on your Snapchat story! Do you have some thoughts about a lipstick you just bought? Snap a mini review of it and let your Snapchat followers know when they can see a detailed review on your blog. Just like you promote your blog on other social networks, Snapchat gives you another platform to push your blog content.

4. It can help you reach new fans -
Snapchat is where young people live online. If you're a blogger, chances are you want to grow your following and younger people (millennials and gen z) are the largest demographic in the world today. Reach those people by creating content on the platforms where they're spending the most time! Just last year, more than 50% of Snapchat users worldwide were young millennials and 41% of American teens used Snapchat, so it makes sense to have a presence there.

5. Lets you easily add video to your brand -
Live vlogging or making videos for YouTube can be intimidating, but people in the U.S. are spending more than 5 hours per day watching video content. Easily enter the video arena with short, easy Snapchat videos. There's no pressure if the lighting is less than great or worrying if you'll want the world seeing the video a year later because they're impermanent. Making Snapchat videos may even get you used to talking to a camera and help you ease into creating video content on other platforms.

6. It's quick and easy (and fun!)-
Snapchat doesn't require much thought. The interface is simple and the posts aren't fancy. You just snap and post it to your story (or send it to certain friends.) Nothing is edited or scheduled. That's about as simple as it gets in the land of the internet. Plus, it's just plain fun! The filters are hilarious and the ability to draw on snaps never fails to entertain me. You can be so creative with it!

If you haven't given Snapchat a try yet, I encourage you to do so! If you're just using it for personal communication, you may want to make your Snapchat story public and let your blog followers know where to find you. You never know what platform you'll have the most success on!

Work Outfit: Light Blue Jersey Knit Dress and White Block Heels

light blue tobi skater dress forever 21 white block heels outfit

I'm a big fan of what I call "pajama dresses," which are really just jersey knit skater dresses. They're comfortable enough to sleep in, yet can look 100% put-together if styled nicely. That's exactly what I did with this light blue dress California-based shop Tobi sent me to style. (Someone even asked me why I was dressed so nice at the dog park! I told them I just came from work, of course.)

For the debut of my newest pajama dress, I added my silvery beaded Stella and Dot necklace and a pair of white block heel sandals from Forever 21. I actually bought the shoes back in December on sale and had to wait for it to warm up to finally wear them. Happily, they're comfortable enough to walk back and forth to work, which is really all I can ask in a pair of cheap shoes.

I had never tried out Tobi before even though I've been getting their emails for a while. They have a lot of solid-colored basics and plenty of dresses perfect for going out to the bars. Tobi has a great deal where you get 50% off your first order, which is extra fantastic when applied to their sale items! I was impressed with the quality of the items they sent me too. No frayed hems or loose buttons to be found. Stay tuned to see the other pieces in upcoming blog posts!

A dress like this is extra versatile. It's one of those that are fantastic for traveling because it's so comfortable. I didn't even belt it and I looked put-together. Dress win! I'm loving the color too because it matches my eyes. How would you style this dress? I always love to get ideas from you for different ways to wear my clothes!

I hope you're all having a great weekend! I'm planning on relaxing this Memorial Day weekend. We have absolutely no plans and I'm reveling in that. It's wonderful. I'll probably spend time on our deck, enjoying the not-extremely-hot-yet Georgia weather. What are your plans?

Happy Saturday!

PS - Definitely didn't realize this until right this minute, but my fifth blogiversary is today! I can't believe I've been doing this for five years, through some of college, all of grad school and everything that has come afterward. Wow!

Outfit: Light Blue Pinafore Dress, Red Top, and White Sandals

Red Silk Blouse, Denim Patterned Pinafore Dress, and White Sandals

I've had this chambray overall dress for quite a few years now, but finally had the straps taken up so I didn't have to safety pin them shorter anymore. I enjoy a good overall even if it can look a little twee. I usually get plenty of positive comments on this pinafore dress though so I guess I'm not too old to rock one.

This entire outfit takes me back to childhood because I'm pretty sure I wore a red shirt, overalls, and white shoes combination when I was a little kid. (I wish I could dig up the picture to compare.) It's a pretty solid combination if I do say so myself. So solid I wore it the other day and was very pleasantly surprised at how much I loved the outfit. What do you think? Would you/have you rocked overalls or pinafore-like things in your adulthood?

On a non-outfit-related note:

Can we talk for a minute about the oxford comma? I love the oxford comma. It just makes sense. However I work in PR and therefore must conform to AP style which forbids the oxford comma for some insane reason. Therefore I had to adapt and not use it at work - which pains me. The problem is that adaptation has slithered its way into my personal life and I sometimes find myself forgetting that last, perfect comma while blogging. The horror! Someday maybe the AP Stylebook will change its ways, but until then I guess I have to keep adjusting depending on my situation. I can't be the only oxford comma lover out there though. Where are my extra comma-loving people? You're all winners!

In other news, I'm continuing to plan Matt and my trip to Europe this fall and slowly renting Air BnBs. It's pretty exciting! We have about half of them booked and most of the flights too. It's becoming reality!

How has your week been so far and how was your weekend? I spent a lot of time back home for my sister's graduation party, which was fantastic and had so much delicious food I'm still snacking on leftovers instead of cooking actual meals for myself. Adulthood at its finest.

Anyway, I hope you have a smooth rest of your week! Happy Tuesday!

Work Outfit: Navy Polka Dot Skirt, Purple Tie Neck Blouse, and Silver Oxfords

Navy Polka Dot Skirt, Light Purple 70s Blouse, and Silver Brogues

Happy Wednesday to you! I'm happy to share another work outfit with you. I guess it's not traditional work wear but I wore it to the office. We have a pretty casual dress code. This purple top was a thrift find from a long while back. It has a kind of 70s feel to it and I love the color. The little neck tie absolutely has to be tied in a knot or it comes undone about 10,000 times a day though. I paired my purple blouse with more cool tones with my navy blue polka dot skirt and a pair of bright silver oxfords. My socks matched my top a little bit and that's a-okay with me!

How has your week been going? Mine could be better but I'm hanging in there until the weekend. It's my sister's grad school graduation party and I'm looking forward to some good times. Other than that, nothing too exciting is going on in my life. Wish I could tell you a good story, but I have none to tell so please enjoy the pictures and tell me what you have planned for the weekend!

Have a fantastic rest of your week!

Outfit: Rainbow Paint Splatter Dress with Yellow Wedge Sandals

White Dress with Multicolored Graffiti Paint Splatter and Yellow Wedges

This was the first time I wore this paint splatter print dress and it was crazy how many positive comments I got on it! I guess it's a pretty unique pattern, which would be why I couldn't resist it. It was such an inexpensive purchase that I wasn't really expecting it to fit so well, but it's kind of perfect for my 4'11" body. Not too long in the torso, and short, but not obscenely short. It's still on sale, so if any of you other petite people are interested, it's there. For reference, I bought a size medium.

For its debut I styled it with some bright yellow wedges I picked up at Target on clearance a couple years back and a little red hair bow. It ended up a perfectly bright, spring-y outfit. (I actually wore this back on Easter so the pictures have been sitting on my computer for a while. Oops!)

I threw in our little family picture above for good measure. Riker is a big boy now! He actually turned one last week and I'm planning on writing a little post about him. He's definitely better behaved than he was when he was five to eight months old, which is good for my sanity.

In other news, I have a nice three day weekend coming up because I took a day off for my sister's grad school graduation. I'm heading back to Athens to spend a day there and have some fun after the graduating festivities. Should be a good time! It's always nice when Thursday is like Friday.

Have a happy rest of your week!

Work Outfit: Blue Lace Romper, Black Tights, and Black Wedge Boots

Work Appropriate Romper: Blue Lace Romper, Black Tights, Wedge Ankle Boots

Where did the week go? I meant to post this earlier in the week, but oh well. It has been unusually cool outside the past couple days when the past two weekends we spent time at the pool. Georgia weather is so weird. I wore this to work a little while back but could have easily broke out my tights again yesterday!

This blue romper is surprisingly work-appropriate due to the length of the shorts and being so covered up on top. I enjoy how perfectly it fits, the great bright blue color, and that it's lace - because who can have too many lace things anyway? You can see how I wore it to work last year here. This time I styled it on a cool day with some plain black tights and my comfy wedge ankle boots from Target. The sunglasses were a necessary addition while walking around after work. Because I don't tend to wear my sunglasses inside. (No judgment if you do.)

How was your week? Mine actually went by pretty quickly! I started the May Blogilates calendar last Sunday and have kept up with it pretty well. I'm actually kind of impressed with myself because I'm definitely not a fitness type of girl. If you haven't checked out Blogilates, you should. You may think the workouts are all bubbly and fun but they're actually hard! I'm trying to get through the month. We'll see how long my will holds out.

Anyway, how was your week? Tell me all about it! Do you have any fun weekend plans? We're probably doing a brewery tour tomorrow and Matt and I are going out to lunch with his mom. The plans include eating and drinking so they're great in my book!

Happy Friday!
