The Fringe Off: Styling Ruffles

Image
It's been nearly a year since our last The Fringe Off collaboration - see how we styled tacky Christmas sweaters last winter - but here we are again styling ruffles! Be sure to check out how everyone else styled this trend at the end of this post.  The ruffled shirt , the star of this post, is from Forever 21 and combines two recent trends: lace up and ruffles. My plaid skirt is a new favorite that I got from Primark when I was over in Scotland last month. The brown clogs are from Kork Ease's less expensive brand, Korks, and they're the comfiest things. I'll be so sad when they wear out.  This outfit is one of my favorites I've put together lately. I'm excited it's finally cool enough for tights at home because I think the mustard yellow tights add a lot to this look. It all just seems very "fall" to me! It's also been interesting seeing how my clothes and usual color schemes look with blonde hair instead of red. top: forever...

Outfit: Red and Green Plaid Dress, Faux Leather Jacket, Gray Tights, and Cat Eye Glasses

Image
Saint Patrick's day is kind of a big deal in my family and I tend to celebrate all week long, wearing as much green as possible. I do own a lot of green clothes. Unfortunately this isn't what I'm wearing today but it fits the green theme somewhat, so it'll be my St. Pat's post this year! I'm wearing a shamrock necklace so it works, right? I originally bought this green, red, and blue plaid dress from Modcloth for Christmas but it ended up being much too large in the bodice area, which is a struggle I often have with dresses fitted at the waist. The back was buckling out from too much fabric so my mom altered it for me by taking up the shoulders and now it fits perfectly! Clearly it didn't end up being a holiday dress but maybe this year it will be. For now I styled it with my faux leather jacket, some gray tights, and lace-up ankle boots. I was rocking my cat eye glasses because my eyes were bothering me too. dress : modcloth | jacket: ashley ...

Outfit: Striped Dress, Blue Plaid Coat, Knee Socks, and a White Knit Scarf

Image
The amount of stripey patterns going on in this outfit makes me happy. I didn't originally plan to wear this blue plaid coat when I put on the rest of my clothes, but the added color and pattern adds a lot to my outfit. There might be too much going on for some, but I enjoyed it! It was perfect for wandering around Piedmont Park with Matt and Riker. Although at one point it got a little warm and I had to take my scarf off. Oh well! This striped fit and flare dress is one of the comfier options in my closet. It feels like pajamas which is almost always a plus. Then I layered some herringbone fishnet tights with black knee socks - because why not? The wedge boots were a practical, yet stylish choice because they're incredibly comfortable to walk in. Finally, I wore my big blue Firmoo glasses since they hadn't seen daylight in a while. Overall, a busy, yet comfy outfit for a warm winter day. coat: target | dress: forever 21 | tights: kohls? | socks: target | wed...

Outfit: Seafoam Cable Knit Sweater over a Flannel Top, Denim Button Down Skirt, and Blue Tights

Image
Happy Leap Day to you! Now that it's nearly March I figure I better show you this layer-tastic outfit from January before you're all completely sick of cool weather looks. I'm just a bit behind in my backlog of outfits. I really enjoyed the layering and colors in this look though.  I enjoy the cable knit sweaters I own but I do find them a little bulky, especially when I want to layer a shirt underneath. Tucking in my tops ensures I'm proportioned well without having to cut length off of all my shirts, which would be pretty difficult for sweaters. So, to get to the point, I was feeling a little bulky here, but still cute so it's okay. I layered a go-to flannel shirt under my blue-green sweater and added a cool vintage pin which I think was my Great Grandma's. This ASOS denim skirt has been getting plenty of wear lately because it's neutral and goes with pretty much everything, so I threw it on too. (Please excuse the wrinkles. I was sitting at wo...

Outfit: Plaid Winter Coat, Black Lace Dress, Bright Blue Tights, and White Polka Dot Boots

Image
I wore this outfit a couple months ago and really wasn't a fan of how it ended up looking in pictures so I waited to share it. Sometimes I put on an outfit, think it looks awesome, and then look at photos later and go, "I look nuts." This was one of those times. Luckily I kind of like how crazy it looks now with the mix of polka dots and my blue plaid coat. I have the pictures so why not share it? Someone may be inspired by it! Maybe I would like these pictures better without my coat, but it was cold out so it was included! This is the first time this coat has been on the blog but it was a new purchase for this winter. I got it on sale at Target. It has a great tie waist so I've been enjoying wearing it with some skinny jeans and flats for walks with Riker. It looks like I put effort into an outfit even when I'm being lazy.  The rest of my outfit was pretty simple. A black lace dress, some incredibly bright blue tights, and my white chunky polka dot bo...

Outfit: Red Plaid Shirt Dress with a Brown Leather Jacket, Blue Tights, & Leopard Flats

Image
I have quite a few pieces of clothing I've held onto for years because they're relatively classic - and I still like them. This dress is one of those pieces. It must be at least seven years old now but I still enjoy the red plaid and shirt dress style. It's comfortable and versatile. You probably have clothes like this too! Recently I wore my red plaid dress on a weekend walk down the Atlanta BeltLine with Matt and Riker. I added a pair of blue tights and some leopard print flats for a touch of pattern mixing. It was slightly too warm for my brown leather jacket at the time but I wore it anyway. I liked how the warm brown looked with the red dress. I hope you enjoy these pictures with Riker because he was not having it. He just wanted to run around and eat sticks. He's very much a puppy and a troublemaker.  dress: target | jacket: c/o asos | tights: forever 21 | flats: delia's | earrings: thrifted So do you have any fun plans for the weekend? I...

The Fringe Off: Styling a Christmas Jumper

Image
Today I present you with the first style challenge of the new blogger collaboration group, The Fringe Off: styling a Christmas sweater. By the name of the group and the use of "jumper" instead of "sweater," you can tell I'm the American outlier in this group! The bloggers who started it are from the U.K. and also have great "bangs" as we call them here in the U.S. We wanted to show you a few ways to style these delightful seasonal items just in time for  National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day  on December 18. I actually didn't have a Christmas-specific sweater when we got the challenge but I promptly made sure I hunted one down. I had a wonderfully horrible thrifted one for a funny family Christmas card a couple years back but it has since been re-donated. Luckily Target had their "ugly" Christmas sweaters on sale a week or so ago. I tried out some in the regular women's section but decided to check out the kid sweaters since the...

Outfit: Plaid Pleated Skirt, Blue Velvet Top, Jean Jacket, and Silver Shoes

Image
Sometimes I draw inspiration from the school uniforms I never had to wear. And by that I mean I wear this thrifted plaid skirt that I'm pretty sure was part of a child's school uniform. It fits like it was made for me and I love it. This time I paired it with a crushed velvet crop top and my jean jacket. I added silver accessories for some extra flair.  I really liked how this outfit turned out! It felt young, fun, and a little bit 90s-inspired. I always feel like I get bonus points when main parts of my outfit are thrifted too. 340 points for Hufflepuff! (Because, P.S. I'm a Hufflepuff according to Pottermore.) jean jacket: thrifted | velvet top: forever 21 | plaid skirt: thrifted | tights: forever 21 | shoes: sam & libby - target | necklace: sheinside Once again, I can't believe it's already Friday. I've hardly left the house the entire week. Just Tuesday to shop with store credit for a couple hours. Thus is the life of a job hunter. You ...

Outfit: Red Plaid Mock Turtleneck Dress, Gray Cardigan, and Two Toned Flats

Image
Happy Monday! It's time for another outfit post! After resizing these photos I realized I'm wearing nearly the same color scheme as the outfit in my last post. This time the sweater is gray rather than silver, but it's still very close. Oh well! Red with black/white/gray is a staple color pairing in my wardrobe. It's especially appropriate to wear plenty of red now that it's February (which means Valentine's Day and National Heart Month). I feel like wearing every red dress I own or anything with heart print. That might be excessive though. Anyway, here I'm wearing my red plaid mock turtleneck dress again. I combined it with a gray H&M cardigan I've had since high school, some black tights, and new black & white Steve Madden flats I got for just $15 at Shoe Carnival. I find it hard to believe that certain things I wear are from my high school days, but here I am still wearing this gray cardigan. I swear, H&M cardigans hold up the best out...
