Did you miss out on the Kat Von D Lolita Lip Duo? Don't feel like spending $20 for a full sized Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Lolita, the highly coveted rosy brown shade that's so popular this year? Sad you can't get ahold of Lolita 2 yet? No worries! I found dupes of the two colors in my ridiculous Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color collection. I was actually surprised at how similar the shades were. Who knew I already had those colors in my possession?
Left to right: Kat Von D Lolita from the Lolita Duo, Wet n Wild Mocha-licious, Kat Von D Lolita 2 from the Lolita Duo, Wet n Wild Sandstorm
They are, however, different formulas. The Kat Von D is a liquid lipstick that dries to a matte finish and the Wet n Wild Megalast formula is a regular stick lipstick in a demi-matte finish. Both are comfortable to wear, but I'm not bothered by matte finishes. The wear time is similar if you factor in eating and drinking while wearing them, but the Kat Von D doesn't transfer, meaning when I drink my coffee in the morning or kiss Matt goodbye, nothing comes off. For the Wet n Wild lipstick, a little bit does transfer. I'm cool dealing with some transfer for an $18 savings though.
If you don't particularly care about having the liquid lipstick formula and just want to try out the trendiest color of the year, head over to the drugstore and pick up color dupes for both Lolita and Lolita 2 (which isn't even available in full size yet) for $1.99 each. So for $4 you'd have a color similar to the rosy brown Lolita and another similar to the terracotta, orangier brown Lolita 2. Drugstore win!
I do really enjoy both of the formulas here though, so if you have the money to spend on a liquid lipstick, the Kat Von D formula is super comfortable. I like that I can touch it up after eating without it getting flaky and weird too. For the price, you can't beat those $2 Wet n Wild lipsticks though. I think I have 25 of them and every one is super opaque and long wearing.
Did you grab the Lolita minis set? Have you tried out either of these formulas and which one is your favorite?
