New Year's Eve Outfit: Black Sequined Dress, Blue Tights, and Polka Dot Boots

Image
Happy 2015! This incredibly sparkly ensemble was my New Year's Eve outfit. Is there a better time to wear a dress completely covered in sequins? I actually wore this same dress for Christmas Eve with red tights and blue shoes too, but never got a full picture of it. For New Year's Eve I styled my new dress with my ultra cool and quirky polka dot boots and a pair of super bright blue tights. I figured I may as well play up the loudness of the dress with bold accessories! You may have also seen me wearing this dress in the Delia's dressing room on my Instagram page , but if not here it is! This black sequined dress was my last purchase at the now-closing Delia's. During a trip to the mall before they were closing, I'd gazed at this dress from afar but willed myself to keep moving along. Then everything was on super sale after they announced the bankruptcy and closing, so during another mall trip I was sucked into the store to try it on. Obviously it fit, I got a gr...

Outfit: Striped Fit and Flare Dress, Gold Sparkly Loafers, & a Superhero Print Hair Bow

Image
Happy Wednesday everyone! This dress is a recent Modcloth sale purchase. I was buying my star print bikini and noticed this dress was also super cheap. So naturally it went in the cart and now it's mine. I figured it'd be a good piece to remix throughout the year. I'll be able to layer tops underneath it and style a ton of different colored tights and cardigans with it too. For its first day out there was no layering due to the muggy horrible weather, so I just accessorized with my wonderfully sparkly gold loafers and a superhero print hair bow. dress: modcloth | shoes: xhileration - target | bow: gift Are you guys having a good week so far? Unfortunately I don't have much to report other than that I'm mentally preparing for Dragon Con. I'm job hunting and finding nothing I'm qualified for so to not feel so bad about myself I've just been getting pumped about this weekend. That's what normal people do right? Yeah.  Anyway, have a gr...

Valentine's Day Outfit: Red Dress, Leopard Print Cardigan, Backseam Tights, & Sparkly Gold Loafers

Image
Happy Wednesday everyone! Here's what I actually wore on Valentine's Day and is another outfit featuring my new short 'do. This outfit wasn't planned in advance and was thrown together that morning, but I think it turned out very festive! I went with traditional red for the holiday and wore this red Modcloth dress with a peter pan collar. I always enjoy wearing this dress because I think it's really flattering on me. I may love it even more with my short hair. Anyway, I decided I needed a little bit of leopard print too and threw on this short sleeved cardigan. Leopard and red scream Valentine's Day to me, but maybe that's just me. I also went all out with the heart accessories and matched my gold sparkly loafers to all of my gold heart jewelry.  dress: modcloth | cardigan: forever 21 | tights: macy's | shoes: xhileration - target | belt: thrifted | heart ring: forever 21 | heart necklace & earrings: gift from Matt Here's the offen...

A Holiday Outfit: Blue Lace Dress, Black Capelet, and Sparkly Heels

Image
You guys are probably getting sick of my Illinois outfits. I'm sorry! I wore a lot of clothes there? I'm finally getting through my backlog so you'll be seeing more recent stuff very soon.  This is actually what I wore on Christmas Eve, so it's a little fancier than my usual outfits. Any excuse to break out this black cape (capelet?) is a good enough excuse for me. I spent more than I should have on it and I hardly get to use it because capes, while adding instant classiness, are kind of an awkward bit of outerwear. Like what do you do with your arms if they're not covered? I solved that issue by wearing a black cardigan underneath which may have negated some of the classiness of the cape, but oh well. Warmth is important. dress: modcloth | capelet: prabal gurung - target | tights: forever 21 | shoes: madden girl - shoe carnival | necklace: gift | belt: thrifted It was windy so enjoy my goofily parted bangs. This blue lace dress is actua...

Casual New Year's Eve Outfit: Vintage T-Shirt, Tulle Skirt, & Striped Tights

Image
Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a nice New Year's Eve. Mine was very casual and I enjoyed that a lot. We played a board game, had some beer, and watched various countdown shows until midnight. There were also sparklers, so that was exciting.  I thought about wearing a fully sequined dress but I was kind of tired and wanted to be able to lounge. That's not exactly easy when you're worried about sequins laying correctly. I was glad I had this black tulle skirt at home! It's festive but also comfortable - especially when paired with a soft vintage t-shirt like this Psychotic State one. This is probably my all-time favorite vintage shirt from Dad and that's saying something because they're all really cool. How can you beat this one though? I figured it made a nice statement about 2013 and the large amount of grad school that took up my life and brain. Anyway, I tried to add as much sparkle to my outfit as possible with my silver beaded necklace ...

A Holiday Outfit: Red Sweater with a Plaid Pleated Skirt and Glittery Gold Loafers

Image
I wore this on the day I exchanged presents with Matt and then later, my family. We usually get our presents out of the way before visiting family since it's too much to take them with us. I decided on a holiday appropriate outfit for the day I like to call "Giftmas". You can't go wrong with plaid for holiday-wear and this red sweater I've had since high school was a great match for my thrifted plaid skirt. Each time I wear this skirt I'm always pleasantly surprised with how perfectly it fits me. It didn't even need alterations. I'm pretty sure it was some girl's uniform skirt at one point. Oh well! It's mine now! skirt: thrifted | shirt: forever 21 (circa 2007) | tights: target kids' department | loafers: xhileration - target | pin: from grandma I needed to throw in a jumping picture for good measure. It's happy holiday times after all! Are you guys having a nice week? I've been having a good time visiting family...

Houndstooth Tights, Denim Shirt, Black A-Line Skirt, & Sparkly Boots

Image
Hey it's my new denim shirt again! I don't have nearly enough neutral tops so I'm sure this will be getting plenty of wear. For this outfit I let my bold houndstooth tights be the star though. They were only around $2 during a Forever 21 sale so I had to snatch them up. I can see them looking really cool with a red pencil skirt. Maybe that'll be one of my Thanksgiving break outfits! Look at me coming up with outfits in the middle of the night like an outfit wizard. (I probably should have scheduled this post prior to 4am but essay writing prevailed on my to-do list. So now you get to read strange(r) ramblings due to my lack of sleep.) top, skirt, tights, bow: forever 21 | boots: boohoo | earrings: charming charlie It's Friday! Though I'm still working on a paper so I'm not free for Thanksgiving break yet. Nor am I really free during Thanksgiving break since I have an interview, a presentation to put together, and another paper to write. T...

Colorful Polka Dots & a Red Velvet Skirt

Image
Happy Friday everyone! I wore this fairly festive outfit yesterday for Giftmas number one. (Giftmas is pre-Christmas gift opening, traditionally held before going out of town.) I actually wore this thrifted Christian Dior polka dot top on Christmas two years ago, so I guess that's why it feels festive to me. I paired it with a red velvet skirt, which is definitely perfect for holiday times. top: christian dior - thrifted | skirt: romwe | sparkly loafers: xhileration - target | tights: kmart | bow earrings: from mom Outfits like this make me remember why I loved all my thrifted button-down shirts I used to wear constantly. They were in storage for so much of this year, I forgot! They really are wonderful.  Also, my shirt is a wrinkled mess, but oh well. Matt did a pretty fantastic job picking out presents for me. All I asked for was my camera flash and I figured that was enough of a present, but he also got me a pretty cameo necklace and a puzzle...
